New to me Base 2.96MT has the OEM CC stalk installed and I have not seen it ever come on with the green light on dash or function. I did check the brake pedal and clutch pedal switches and both appear to work correctly. I basically swapped both and have functional lights, start switch, hill hold etc. No codes stored what else can i check before I invest in a new stalk?
How did you check the two switches? Swapping them? I have to assume the switches are identical..
My suggestion is to use a diagnostics tool that's capable of reading the "state" of all the switches/buttons - and any Porsche specific errors (not OBD-II) that may be stored in the ECU. Use the tool to see if the control modules is seeing the buttons/switches being activated on the cruise-control stalk. If it does - the issue is downstream or in the module.
And I'm also assuming you've checked the fuses..
Sorry I did check the fuses can't find anything bad and also did a errors check using my obd2 plug in tool. I have now read I should have a green light come on briefly from just ignition key on but I have to verify if that's happening I don't believe it is.
Note that above - I mentioned
NOT an OBD-II reader
. OBD-II is only for emissions-related errors. It has no clue whatsoever as to codes specific to Porsche that can be stored away for diagnosis in the various modules in the car. You need a tool that is capable of talking to those modules. If you plan on doing DIY work on your Cayman or Boxster - you need one of these tools. Right now the best one I know of is Foxwell NT530 with Porsche software, especially for the 987 series. It has extensive diagnostic capabilities for the 987, plus fairly advanced programming capabilities. It's on sale for $149 until Friday I think.
FoxWellTool - Foxwell Diagnostic Tool Authorized Online Shop
- Sale ends tomorrow. That's about $20 off the usual price.
If you get one - let us know and perhaps I can guide you a bit on what to look for to diagnose your Cruise Control.
Again my fault for not explaining better... Not using a generic OBD2 reader. What I do have a diagnostic tool called Icarsoft for the Porche and it shows me nothing for electronic faults.... I also did the key on test and do not see any green light coming on at all. I am not sure I know how to use the tool to check the condition of the stalk switch???
I'm not familiar with the capabilities of the iCarsoft/POR tool. It may or may not be capable of reading the state of the stalk switches. You might poke around in the modules and see if that's listed as something it can do. Probably in the ECU (aka DME) module, but also could be somewhere else (instrument cluster?).
