Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It is at a specialists on Wednesday anyway to have the exhaust fitted so I will get them to have a look.

Suggestion
If the problem started about the same time as the heavy rain we've been having, check for any water that might have got inside the car especially under the seat where the alarm electrics are.
Leading evidence: 'Install so i will get them' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check any water' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If so the tilt sensor may be setting the car alarm off?

get it looked at promptly as the kind of battery faults that can trigger alarms are also the ones that can make batteries, leak, explode or set on fire (although very rarely).
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Quite randomly and driving my neighbour nuts and I cannot really work a pattern to it. Is there any way of turning the ultrasonics off but still arming the car?? I had a search and read of the manual but I could not really find an answer....
Press the lock button twice within 3 seconds - should lock it without ultrasonics (the horn will beep once to let you know that's what you've done)
Do you live near a busy road that heavy trucks use? If so the tilt sensor may be setting the car alarm off? Alternatively, try shutting air vents as well as windows when you lock it up.
lock the door with key and don't press the button. iirc that doesn't enable the alarm, but clearly locks the car.
you can then get it sorted in the morning.
one big thing...make sure the centre storage box is clicked shut and don't store anything metallic in it.
Thanks GD - it actually behaved last night after going off a couple of times in quick succession after arming. I had checked the centre armrest as well, although the roof key is in there and possibly other metallic bits so I will give that a whirl.
Thanks again for your help guys. It is at a specialists on Wednesday anyway to have the exhaust fitted so I will get them to have a look.
Also, having read another thread, I am now wondering if it could be battery related, the car always sounds "lazy" when starting, but always starts fine, but if on its way out, then maybe it could be triggering the alarm?
Failing batteries can trigger the alarm. get it looked at promptly as the kind of battery faults that can trigger alarms are also the ones that can make batteries, leak, explode or set on fire (although very rarely).
If the problem started about the same time as the heavy rain we've been having, check for any water that might have got inside the car especially under the seat where the alarm electrics are.
Also check that the audio equipment is well seated. My alarm was going off because the stereo did not have the correct cage around it, so was not properly earthed. Caused the alarm to go off a lot. The car did tell me there was a problem, with the warning horn "toot" when I locked it.
