Happily it wasnt fitted by the mentals with the airguns.
Leading evidence: 'Install by the mentals' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install by the mentals' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Yeah, the roadside wheel change is increasingly difficult unless you have manually fitted the wheels yourself.

If you need the AA to loosen it they can put a temporary repair on it.

My other half actually left her car at a roadside overnight as she couldnt change a wheel on her SEAT.

In both cases I was unable to replace the wheel as the dealers tend to overtighten the nuts.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just wondering if anyone has done this. I also have an Elise and it doesnt have any spare. Never had a puncture in 50k miles in it. My recently sold A3 had 18 inch wheels with low profile tyres and had two punctures. In both cases I was unable to replace the wheel as the dealers tend to overtighten the nuts. Im not weak and Ive removed God knows how many wheels. The AA couldnt remove one of them!
Im mildly tempted to ditch the spare and simply call the AA in event of a puncture. Thereby losing some weight and gaining space.
Sods law of course dictates.......
There is no legal requirement to carry a spare wheel, but if you do it must be legal (size, tread, inflated pressure, speed limit marked if space-saver, etc). However, many new cars don't have a spare wheel now anyway - you just get a can of foam stuff (which is worse than useless if you split a sidewall or something).
Having just had to have bolts welded onto my Trooper's locking wheelnuts to remove them (done up so tight it stripped the splines on the lock nut), I'm kind of with you on the idea of not even attempting a roadside wheelchange!
The extra space is useful, but as Simon says not much of a weight advantage unless you need the space for a bag of cement to keep the front end down...
Yeah, the roadside wheel change is increasingly difficult unless you have manually fitted the wheels yourself. So madly tight Im coming to the view that its possibly worthless to carry a spare. If you need the AA to loosen it they can put a temporary repair on it. Thats what they did with my Audi which had a sidewall puncture.
The weight thing is an aside really, the extra space would be more appreciated though.
on friends once Joey said something was a 'moo point' and when asked what a moo point was he said 'a cow's opinion, it doesn't count' - oh how I laughed.
Don't they have torque wrenches at the dealers then? Call me sad but I try and watch the mechanics doing up the wheelnuts whenever possible to make sure they torque them correctly (that doesn't mean whizzing them up with an air gun to 200ft/lbs then clicking the torque wrench on them!)
These OPC guys are supposed to be highly trained!
:x
I'll put my soap box away now...
I think the tyre monkeys just whack the airgun to "articulated lorry and armoured vehicle" setting. If they dont strip the threads they have hermetically sealed the wheel to hub for all time.
funnily enough was discussing this yesterday...
If you can take the wheel sans car to wrench monkey and then fit it yourself.
Now I obviously wouldn't do that as I don't even know where the jack is on my Megane... Taras is under the bonnet some where... but wouldn't have a clue on jacking points or stuff...
isn't that why women have blokes?
It is indeed what blokes are for
My other half actually left her car at a roadside overnight as she couldnt change a wheel on her SEAT. Cue early start for me next morning to fix it. Happily it wasnt fitted by the mentals with the airguns.
i think you have to be careful with RAC \ AA etc... i think in their terms, it states if the car came with a spare, and your's isnt servicable, you will be charged for a recovery.
had fun with a puncture in the M3 last year ->
no spare wheel - just foam thingy, however, tyre so flat that foam no good (big hole in tyre) and jack would not actually fit in the space between road and jacking point to lift the wheel to remove it...
oh how i laughed...

I was in the happy never had a puncture camp till last week.... Whilst going round a bend pretty quickly the tyre deflated. When i checked, the side wall was split (Since been Geo'd!) So i was quite pleased to have a spare, I managed to get the bolts off but the tyre wouldn't lift off. After calling my garage they explained you just give it a good thump! However has anyone used their jack? What a load of rubbish. I actually bent it whilst jacking the car up.
