Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Also - I put coins in the ashtray (I know, how can a Porsche owner use coins..?!), which rattled alot, so put them in a coin bag.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have an irregular rattle from the dashboard area of my 996 C2 Tip. Seems to come from radio/heater/cassette storage area but not absolutely sure (not windscreen). worse but not limited to rough road. Any suggestions please. How easy is it to get radio etc out?

POST 2Original post

Welcome to the forum - and 996 ownership! Dashboard rattles on 996 are a well known issue I'm afraid... Apparently when they were under new car warranty dealers could claim for stripping the dash and fitting felt to the joins between components! I've just learned to live with mine (3 years now!)

POST 3Original post

I always find that a trackday or two sorts out most dashboard rattles. BTW, is it the gear lever boot or whatever surrounds the Tiptronic thingy

POST 4Original post

I find sometimes mine rattles like a 10yr old Vauxhall minicab, other times its fine. :?

POST 5Original post

I thought it was just mine! Mine was fine until I got the stereo changed at OPC Hatfield. Not so good now. Also - I put coins in the ashtray (I know, how can a Porsche owner use coins..?!), which rattled alot, so put them in a coin bag. Better.

POST 6Original post

If its any consolation, my old 993 has a loose somethingorother behind the dash that would scoot about from time to time going round bends. Annoyingly, whenever I took it to for service, the noise stopped.
