Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

(mods, could you move this to electronics? sorry) I've seen some pioneer avic units go for 1,500 where its retail price is listed at 2500. The sellers seem to sell large volume, is it safe to buy from them? (I understand the dangers of installing this, the installer I am going to was referred to be by my dealer, apparently he has done this several times.)

POST 3Original post

Speed Racer, I've talked sellers down to $1380... it's just the amount of mark up they have on some of these units. However, I'm not sure if Pioneer will give you the full warranty if you purchase from a non-authorized dealer, but several dealers on ebay are authorized pioneer dealers. Apart from that, just look at their past sales of the units, if they have lots of feedback and its positive, I'm sure the unit will be just fine. - SS

POST 4Original post

Probably being discounted because AVIC-Z2 was announced at CES... However, all indications point to the differences being software only, and Z1 being upgradeable to Z2 for a couple of hundred bucks.

POST 5Original post

Actually swan, I did research on z1's a while ago so they've always been around ~$1500. I like the packages they have on ebay where you get the bluetooth and the ipod adapter and the z1 for around $1699... I got really close to pulling the trigger, but for some reason the look of the z1 never did it for me; the big screen and really small buttons on the bottom don't look factory. I think we will see D3's going around $759-899, since retail is $1000, the ipod cable is only like 20-30 bucks and bluetooth adapter is like $120 on ebay. I'd be content with the whole package at $1000. By the way pm me your email address, I'll send those wiring diagrams your way for the installer. He'll only need them to figure out which color corresponds with which speaker output, everything else is common knowledge. - SS

POST 6Original post

Suneet, BTW, how are you getting past the CDR24 removal issue? Doesn't MOST need to have the radio connected at all times? -Stevie

POST 7Original post

Stevie, That doesn't seem to be the case anymore, especially for non-Bose cars, as several people have done installs and sell their old units on ebay or document it in blogs, forums, etc. Best way to know is to check your specific car, take out the plugs from the back of the headunit and start the car. - SS
