Mine's done 91,000 now and I reckon it's running the best ever (hasn't used one single drop of oil in the last 10,000 miles) - just make sure all the services have been done at reputable specialists or OPCs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm currently driving a boxster which scares the heck out of me in the wet , icy conditons anyway. Found out my husband has been 'playing away from home' for years so he's history, sold my fab house and have realised that after years of working my socks off I've got very little after it all, so I'm downsizing house bigstyle and have signed up to living for the moment, cruise is booked but I need a 911, been looking for ages, want to spend 20K max. Had the time of my life today, test drove a new C4S cab, in Newcastle awesome, made my heart beat and knees shake, fantastic. I'm a bit shaky on what to look for in used range, what is high mileage? seen loads around 100K - is that bad given porsche build quality? Colour - think silver or grey metallic is best - what do you think?? Needs to be C4, does colour of interior matter? R there any faults i should look for? Your help would be greatly appreciated as I'd hate to buy something dodgy only for my ex to have a good laugh-nightmare Thanks for reading , looking forward to your reply

POST 2Original post

you'll need at least £25+ for starters for a decent 996 avoid cheap cars

POST 3Original post

Welcome Lorraine. 911 defintitely the correct choice of therapy, adn you'll be welcome here as log as you dont start posting Bridget Jones -like threads. You obviously are looking in the right area, the C4S Cab is lovely, personally I like the Seal Grey or Black. High mileage, cant comment but I'd be surprised to see many around 100k mark. All you need to be sure of is that you get a Porsche Extended Warranty to cover the potentially expensive bill if it goes wrong. Otehrwise the C4S models ar ethe least depreciating and most desirable 996. I'll leave the detail advice to the 996 boys and girls. Oh and be sure to get in touch with G of Elite Detailing.

POST 4Original post

Missed that your budget is £20k max. Perhaps you dream might not be attainable and keep with your Boxster

POST 5Original post

If a Boxster scares you keep away from the 911... Lorraine you mates with BJ or TJ?

POST 7Original post

Lorraine - perhaps the way forward is to get some expert driving instruction on a skid pan. Any rear wheel drive car can be scary on ice. (I spun my 911 on a wet roundabout before I learnt how to drive it properly so dont think I'm taking the micky). I'm sure Helen and Nicola on here will agree. Changing car is necessarily the solution??

POST 8Original post

Go for it!!! £20k may be a problem for a 996 - especially if it's got to be a C4 cab! High mileage is obviously more risky, but not necessarily a problem... Mine's done 91,000 now and I reckon it's running the best ever (hasn't used one single drop of oil in the last 10,000 miles) - just make sure all the services have been done at reputable specialists or OPCs. I reckon you could pick up an 8-year old one for just a little over that and still get a warranty :?:

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks so much for your response, greatly appreciated, I was discounting anything above 100K miles but from your experience its perhaps not a problem. May have to drop cab to stay under £20K, seen one in autotrader not too far from me, 96K miles C4 coupe 1999, dark blue metallic but interior is tan for £20K , what do you think, doing this mainly for my 15 year old son and he's so desperate to find one soon Thanks again you are a star (Bye the way I've got nothing to do with BJ nicola - just found out what you were getting at - halarious not!)

POST 10Original post

rather there are cars you can find down to 20k, even cab's so there will be murky diamonds to find..... but they all need ppi's what have you seen and maybe we can help with some comments and info....good bad and ugly

POST 11Original post

Why do you always have to talk complete crap and highjack valid threads. Note, that was not a question. :x Back on topic, Lorraine, per the last response, what cars have you seen and who is selling ?

POST 12Original post

How about this if you want something a bit 'in your face'! Don't know anything about it - so you would need to get it checked out properly, but your son would be the favourite kid on the block if you picked him up in this! http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/220854.htm Needs a good valet though!

POST 13Original post

Or how about a tiptronic? This allegedly is a ONE OWNER car!!! http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/268425.htm

POST 15Original post

Good finds Wattie - wow, didnt realise they had dropped through the £20k mark, should have kept mouth shut before suggesting my earlier comments. Cheap as chips! Blue one - described as Ocean Blue in the ad but nowhere near! Its Zenith Blue. Looks tidy, shame wheels are very bog standard. Seller enjoys writing as its an essay, why such a hard sell for a 'one owner, impeccable car'? Yellow one - seems very good value, and with teh GT3 look does work.
