Suggestion

I was initially drawn to the 992.2 by the promise of superior cog swapping with the 6 spd, but then read various reports suggesting the box was fundamentally the same as the 992.1, offering little improvements in the change quality.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. POST 5Original post

Very different cars, GTS is much sharper/stiff, base 992 esp .2 is much more comfortable quiet. Price same ….. cars not.

POST 6Original post

All great cars, just watch out for if it has sport PASM on it… I personally think it’s too firm and should stick to normal PASM for uk roads. I think bigger depreciation on the 992.2. Would save some cash, avoid the nanny alarms and by a low mileage 2022 car for less, probably a targa.

I’d take the newer car in factory warranty, if it’s a 992.2 t then it’ll be a manual car.

Second tops out in the 70mph range. Track is obviously easier to do. I take it there’s something that records engine over-speeds then?

Edited by cayman-black on Thursday 12th June 12:55 Where are you finding 992.2 T for £100k? Cheapest T on Porsche or Autotrader website is £110k and majority are £115-£125k+. Genuine question as I’m in the market myself. Brief chat with my OPC this week regarding possible discounts on a new T - “As an existing customer we can probably do 5-10% on a stock car, less if it was a factory order”.

POST 18Original post

It wasn’t. I was in talks with them last week and had a good look around the car last Sunday. It had 150 miles or so on it after a customer’s test drive. It had front lift and front aero kit which are both expensive options I wouldn’t personally need. It was amazing value as it was pre-registered so no hideous first year RFL. Lovely car, was a great buy for someone.

POST 20Original post

I really liked it. The pic above captures it pretty well.

Thx Rob. Just to be clear the new cars that are advertised at say £120k do you then have to add the first years huge tax cost to that figure? As you can tell i have not been into a OPC as yet! £4735 tax. Edited by cayman-black on Tuesday 17th June 10:38

POST 22Original post

Hell of a generous test drive. I went to buy it when it had something like 16 miles the clock. There were and are quite a few with exact mirror spec. The deal I was offered really seemed incredible…. But, personal preference as it is, the colour in the flesh didn’t work for me, as it did in pictures…. Lovely car though and amazing value

POST 23Original post

After much deliberation, went for a 992.1 T with fine ingredients inc manual, buckets & carbon roof - saving another seemingly huge chunk from new price

POST 27Original post

cayman-black said: Congratulations jonny that does look great spec. Whats you opinion on this verses the new 6 speed model. ? Thanks. I’ve had a 992.1 T manual previously and must admit that I found the 7 spd box a bit counterintuitive and overly sprung across the gate. My good pal advised me that I was driving it all wrong. And he was largely right; ignore 7th - unless looking for MPG stats.. I was initially drawn to the 992.2 by the promise of superior cog swapping with the 6 spd, but then read various reports suggesting the box was fundamentally the same as the 992.1, offering little improvements in the change quality. It’s not at all comparable to the GT3 manual box but still absolutely fine overall and better the more you get used to it. My main objective was to land the most cost effective 911 vs £outlay and the gap between both generations could not be ignored. Even with huge pre reg discount on the new 992.2 T I’m still convinced the T, in whatever model phase, offers great value and takes some beating..

POST 28Original post

I have now done 80,000 miles in my 992 C2 and I dont see the point in buying one that is claimed to go faster unless you are on the racing track. I get 3.6 seconds to 60 with pdk. Fastest I have seen is 178mph on Le Mans. That will do me. I find it very difficult to use 50% of the cars capabilities on UK roads and over 80,000 miles and 5 years I have rarely been able to give it full throttle on public roads. Suspension wise, the basic C2 is a hard car, yet it has the softest suspension in the range. There is no lean it the corners and it can pull 2g too, so I think it is the one best suited for road use. Even with the highest ride height it will still bottom out unless you are careful, so think hard about getting a lower one. One owner 992's and 992S's with low mileage are now entering the trade at £65-75,000. That is what I would be looking to spend on a second hand one. Dont see the point in spending any more. I have had no mechanical issues whatsoever, even the A/C hasn't needed filling up, so I wouldn't worry about a warranty. In fact I am still on the original brakes. Porsche look after the car and it has been very cheap to run. The big service was at 40,000 miles and then another big one at 60,000 miles. I am taking plugs, accessory belt, brake fluid and a few extra bits- we are talking £1,500, otherwise £350 for 20,000 miles oil and filter changes. I also think the non SportsChrono cars are set up to give you the full beans on demand without having to twiddle any knobs, so whats the point of the knobs? With the smaller turbos you boot it and it takes off, absolutely zero turbo lag, like my old Tesla. Edited by BuyaDuster on Tuesday 17th June 16:24

If it is pre-registered then, no. RFL is not transferable anymore so you still have to tax a pre-registered car if you buy one; that s around £600pa or so. Jonny - that looks mega, super rare being manual with bucket seats. Enjoy. Edited by rob.kellock on Tuesday 17th June 18:22

POST 30Original post

I bought the blue T from Preston last weekend. Took it out three times, so a chunk of those miles are mine. Picking it up Tuesday. There wouldn’t have been much I’d have changed on the spec, and nothing I’d consider a deal breaker. Happy to avoid (some of) the initial depreciation hit. Roll on Tuesday!

POST 31Original post

It’s lovely. My pal bought their silver one a couple of weeks ago and from the passenger seat, it drives very well indeed. He really rates it. Really like the 6 speed manual, suits the car. Wishing you many safe and happy miles.

POST 37Original post

Everytime I see that car I find myself agreeing. All the ‘911’ most people would ever need. My only disappointment with the ‘base’ 992 (.1 and .2) is the PDK only option. The ‘manual’ would add even more purity.

POST 38Original post

When I ordered it, I did ask for a manual but I took the PDK as that is all that was available, if that counts. As it happens the pdk has been fantastic and now I wouldn't change it. Porsche changed the fluid at 60,000 miles and it is still as good as the day it was new. Which gets me onto the next thing, which is that I have had it for nearly 5 years now, longer than I usually keep a car. I still really like it. Like 991's, it hasn't aged in my mind, it still looks good. What is the point in changing? They want my car and £50k from me to sell me the .2 version, which I dont think brings anything to the party. The new luxury car tax is a nause too. I would rather not have another hybrid with extra nanny aids. I really dont think new cars generally are getting any better, just more complicated, almost nothing appeals to me. So I have concocted a clever plan to keep the 992 and reduce its workload so I can keep it forever in my car cave. This involves retiring the 992 to join my classics, where I can still use it, albeit a bit less frequently. Keep it in tip top knick for years and years. Of course this means I need something to tool around in all year round. It must be fast too. I think I have figured this out, its genius, but I wont know for sure if my plan will work until next week.
