I finally got a local shop to install the radar detector/laser shifter on my Cayman. It was pricey, but they did a great job. here's the pics.
Laser Shifters/Jammers installed on both sides up front. The Radar sensor is mounted just above the jammer on the drivers side here, behind that plastic panel.
Rear sensor is mounted on a simple license plate bracket (see my thread about license plate screws, because I need some help here
)
Display was mounted on a custom panel where the storage pocket used to be.
And finally, stealing from one of the other members here, I had the mute button custom installed onto the end of the signal stalk.
Work was done by Custom Car Stereo in Houston. George is the guy I was dealing with there.
One other thing I had installed was the external speaker that Escort sells, so you can have your alerts much louder. I'm not really impressed with this thing. One one hand it *IS* louder, but the speaker sound is softer, and doesn't 'cut through' the music like the piezoelectric thing on the display did. I really wish Escort would sell a larger, external piezoelectric beeper.
looks very clean. my only concern would be that i might have a hard time visualizing the alert that far down in the console. Sometimes I drive with the stereo cranked up. My V1 is fairly loud at full volume, but the visual usually gets my attention if the audio doesnt right away.
This is my problem too. That's why I went out and bought the external speaker, but it's just not cutting it.
I LOVE clean installs like that. My dealer does these installs two, a bit different equipment, but same stealth look.
Looks awesome! What did they make that custom piece that filled in the pocket out of? Is it wood/plastic, covered with material? I would love to get my hands on a blank one of those to install an xm commander module with a clean look like that.
I'm not sure what it's made of, but I really like the way they fit it. It's wrapped in vinyl, and actually just friction fits. It doens't budge a bit, but with some coaxing and pushing on the corners, it *can* be popped loose. No gluing or screwing. Nice to know I can take it out without any scars on the interior.
