Suggestion

If you have sound package plus, you have a (very thin) remote lead you can tap but is not sufficient in itself to provide a 12v supply, so it's better if you use a fuse tap to the same fuse discussed in the articles section under radar hardwire (telephone mod control fuse).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Does anybody out there in Cayman land know how to remove the radio from the Cayman dash to get access to the plugs in the back of the radio. There is a post on this web-site that told of being able to hookup a wired cell phone kit into the Becker radio being used in the Cayman so that the radio can be muted using the Becker radio kit that fits the CR220 and CDR220 by wiring it into the cell phone electronics box to accomplish this. The Becker part # BNA-1319 and costs about $17.00 plus shipping. If you order it, you need to tell Becker it's for a 2005 Boxster , if you tell them it's for a 2006 Cayman they will tell you it will not work when in fact it will. I have ordered the Motorola car kit and specific cradle for my model V710 Motorola phone. I'm planning on doing the install in the next week. If it works I'll be sure and do an article on it as I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the cell phone situation in the Cayman . I tried a Garmin GPS (model #360) which has Blue-Tooth built-in. A great GPS but the Blue-Tooth cell phone capability is not that good as the sound quality is terrible and you can barely hear it. Hopefully this next attempt using the built-in Motorola system will turn out much better. The system I'm referring to is located at the www.hellomoto.com web-site which is a Motorola web-site. The kit is a '9950' in car cell kit with the phone cradle appropriate for your phone. riamaga

POST 2Original post

Yep, I had it out to install a satelite radio receiver. It's been about 6 weeks so some of the parts may be a bit fuzzy. Here is how to do it to the best of my recollection Remove the Bose subwoofer on the pass side if you have one, snap off the vent like thing to get to the screws. Remove the screws in the lower front portion of the console side pieces, driver's may be under a carpet piece. Remove the side pieces by pulling them toward you (toward the back of the car) The radio is held in the rack by a quarter turn fastener thing on each side and a screw on the pass. side. Turn the fasteners (you can see them release) and remove the screw. It now just slides out. If you disconnect the radio or climate control, you will probably get an error code. Hope this helps

POST 3Original post

Did you ever do this install..? Any notes on the process would be good to see. cheers simon

POST 4Original post

The instructions are good, but you don't have to remove the hex screw completely for the radio to slide out and be careful with those plastic fastners, they break easy... I broke two. They hold in metal clips that let the radio slide out, you can do it manually if you break the fragile clips. You will need torx 30, 25 and 20 I believe, and an "L" shaped hex to turn the fasters on the driver side to turn the plastic fasters on the driver side because of obstructions. To install an inline FM modulator you will need two euro-to-motorola antenna adapters available at Crutchfield or bestbuy. If you have sound package plus, you have a (very thin) remote lead you can tap but is not sufficient in itself to provide a 12v supply, so it's better if you use a fuse tap to the same fuse discussed in the articles section under radar hardwire (telephone mod control fuse). If you have Bose you must do the fuse tap. You can also use the "always-on" 12v socket in the passenger footwell for power but must manually turn off the FM modulator. - Suneet

POST 5Original post

Suneet, Which euro connector goes into the radio male or female? Crutchfield has both. Thanks, -Steve

POST 6Original post

Stevie, You need both, part numbers #12040EU20 and #12040EU10 in order to piggy back the FM modulator along with the car antenna so you can listen to both. I'm pretty sure the connector that finally goes into the headunit is male, but I havn't done the install yet myself, I am quoting an article from renntech. You might also want to try bestbuy or radio shack, it could save you a little money and time, I think they were $15 @ my local BB when I checked. - SS

POST 7Original post

Adax, thanks for your information. I'll try to remove by myself, but I have a question about the "carpet" over the screws. Is it easy to reflect the carpet of the console side ? Doesn't it adhere to the side with anything such as magic tape or other chemical material ? Or with only any mechanical method? I am afraid I might tear or damage the carpet .

POST 8Original post

You only need to remove a very small carpet trim piece, held in by 1 T-30 screw. With the screw off, you take off the plastic that the carpet is adhered to w\o any damage to the carpet. - SS

POST 10Original post

i removed my radio yesterday.. so i want to add that you also need a nut wrench number 3 i think to remove the nut screw on the passenger side.. also the plastic "screws" that you guys are talking about is a hex number 5. it doest come off, it just locks the metal lever down so the radio can slide off turn it half way towards the front of the car. also you dont have to remove the subwoofer.. just take the fin out (which comes out so easily) and unscrew using a T-30. the outlet will come out along with the plastic cover giving you access to the T-25 screws.

POST 11Original post

I will have an article up on how to do this soon, I've taken all the pics, just need to write it up and post it!

POST 12Original post

Can't wait, I have the PCM and I'm ready to go. G.
