Porsche have inspected my car on multiple occasions and extended the warranty my car even though it had a Varta battery in it.
Leading evidence: 'Inspect car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I replaced my Porsche battery with Bosch silver about a year ago (no problem with this Dejan, like PE have had service/warranty work since).

If you still dont trust your alternator, its an examination of the part itself, checking none of the coils have gone.
Check things like coldcrank ratings etc (get a geek

Suggestion
need to check things like coldcrank ratings etc (get a geek to do that for you), and even then its a bit of a lottery (in my 2yr experience of 4 batt's and a few hours of electrical work on my car).

Suggestion
Anyway, good news is that I looked at the battery bay and it can accomodate a larger sized battery than the standard Porsche one (the clamp has two settings, and is currently on the narrower setting).

Suggestion
With my car, when batt dies and voltage goes below c.11.5V, the car thinks someone has removed the battery and is trying to steal it, so the alarm goes off (uses the alarm reserve battery).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
My battery has died and needs replacing.
Does anyone know who sells Porsche batteries in the west London area apart from Porsche West London (I believe that putting a 3rd party makers battery causes warranty issues).
Its not that Im being tight, Im an anti monopolist and out of principle wat to support independents and private retailers by purchase it from them.
cheers
Dejan
PS The CTEK still managed to charge the nearly dead battery enough to start her up once, great device.
Another vote for the bosch silver. I paid around £80 from a motor factor here but i believe a lot of people on here have got them for around £60 from costco.
Either way they're cheaper than OPC batteries and equally as good if not better.
Not so.
Porsche have inspected my car on multiple occasions and extended the warranty my car even though it had a Varta battery in it. (and a great battery it is too!)
I'm begining to think i have an alternator issue or smth.
I replaced my Porsche battery with Bosch silver about a year ago (no problem with this Dejan, like PE have had service/warranty work since). only for that to die, so replaced with a Halfords joby.
And after only about a month have noticed the car is not so strong on turnover anymore...
Haran, not all batt's are directly comparable, even if they both have the same Ah rating. need to check things like coldcrank ratings etc (get a geek to do that for you), and even then its a bit of a lottery (in my 2yr experience of 4 batt's and a few hours of electrical work on my car).
And dont forget batt's discharge a lot quicker in winter - they dont like the cold.
Regarding battery life - dont forget that if your batt discharges 2 or 3 times then its pretty much had it in terms of Porsche driving (would be fine if its a smaller car that doesnt need such a huge crank, but not on a 3.4L beast). So it might not last a year if that year involves 3 discharges. Not a problem for Haran though, as his Halfords one prob came with a warranty, so just take it back and exchange it.
I drive mine very irregularly and its parked on the street. This means every 7-10 days i plug in my CTEK and the wire goes out the letterbox, down the pavement and onto the batt via the CTEK adaptor plug wired to the terminals. Leave it overnight to keep it happy.
Haran - alternator: your voltage guage on the dash should read just under 14v when you start up, but settle at c.13.5-13.7v after a while. If it doesn't, get the alternator checked out. If you still dont trust your alternator, its an examination of the part itself, checking none of the coils have gone. I know a good Porsche electrician based SW - ask if you want details.
And I thought of another thing over the weekend regarding unlocking after leaving the car for 4 days. You dont have to unlock it manually and then quickly get the key in the ignition. You can always unlock it manually and then quickly use the remote to re-lock it. Then just unlock it again with the remote and off you go. Less car gymnastics for you...
Josh
PS - aren't battery threads so boring?
Again, thanks everyone.
I was sure that I read somewhere of OPC's being strict on the battery choices, but then again I guess thats how the cash is made by them on aftermarket bits and pieces.
I can vouch for the manual unlock - remote lock - remote unlock to avoid the alarm going off.
I've always bought my batteries from 'German and Swedish' - there should be an outlet near you. They're much cheaper than OPC and you'll also get a battery warranty

Haran - here is the geeky info I was talking about:
http://www.boschautoparts.co.uk/pcBatt1_1.html
Important numbers for you are the Ah (obviously) and the cold cranking.
last night my alarm went off - battery dead! With my car, when batt dies and voltage goes below c.11.5V, the car thinks someone has removed the battery and is trying to steal it, so the alarm goes off (uses the alarm reserve battery). Its a right pain cos everything electrical starts to malfunction - the car doesnt recognise the key or anything. Only solution is to plug in CTEK and wait 30mins for it to get some charge into it. It doesnt help when you have been drinking all afternoon and need to sort it out...
So I am buying a Bosch Silver this weekend - anyone know where I can get one in SW London? (I'm not a costco member?)
So they do... so they do. Went to the one on the A3 near putney on saturday. The guy in there didnt have a clue about 911s or batteries really (initially tried to sell me a 60Ah cos his leaflet only had battery spec for 993's).
Anyway, good news is that I looked at the battery bay and it can accomodate a larger sized battery than the standard Porsche one (the clamp has two settings, and is currently on the narrower setting). I bought a 96Ah one (Porsche standard is 80Ah). This could be useful for those of us that cant use trickle chargers and dont drive that often. Battery cost £130, but I bet Costco is cheaper.
Am fitting it tonight, will let you know how i get on.
