If so, then it is adjusting volume based on your speed, or if you have Bose, based on ambient noise levels.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I brought my Cayman into the dealer a couple of weeks ago to adjust the radio sensitivity and they stated although there is a radio antenna amplifier there is no way to adjust. The frustrating thing is the cheap Chevy Impala they stuck me with as a loaner had crystal clear reception! So digging around for a radio antenna booster, I came upon a response from Scott Slauson of PCA stating, “The radio's in the 987's and 997's are adjustable for sensitivity and can do this if out of adjustment. They will also do this if the station is so weak that it can’t specifically lock into it. You would have to bring it to your local Dealer for adjustment and or replacement. PCNA will usually require that they be check first on these parameters before being replaced.” Does anyone here have any specific information as to where this sensitivity adjustment can be found? As I’ve already brought it to one dealer, what do you guys suggest on taking this issue up to the next level? Please no “mines fine” or “mine does the same” responses. Thanks, -Stevie

POST 2Original post

The adjustment would have to be in the PIWIS but I didn't specifically see it in the PIWIS settings. I did note that cars with PCM actually have dual antenna pickups but non-PCM cars do not (which may mean PCM cars get better reception to start with). If your dealer cannot find the setting in the PIWIS then I would suggest emailing/calling Scott Slauson to see if he can provide an exact pointer as to where.

POST 4Original post

new06cayman, Is the GAL turned on? If so, then it is adjusting volume based on your speed, or if you have Bose, based on ambient noise levels. It's in the owner's manual...

POST 5Original post

Could you be hearing the speed dependent volume control? Page 6 of your radio owners manual.

POST 6Original post

K-Man S, You say there is something about turning a GAL on somewhere in the owners manual? I have thoroughly combed through that thing and could find nothing. I could sure use some pointers in that area before my wife throws me out! Tony

POST 7Original post

Look in your radio Manual, not the Cayman Owners Manual.

POST 8Original post

Santa Fe, I am so confused now. I thought instructions on turning a GAL on would most likely be found in a sex manual. Now you're telling me to look in a radio manual? Like I told K-Man S, my wife gets tired of the same thing every night, I need some help! Where are those danged instructions!

POST 9Original post

thanks guys, i will try that tonight...i really need to read that manual!

POST 10Original post

You guys either have very clean minds, or you are ignoring my very tasteless joke. Either way, I commend you! Tony

POST 12Original post

Really? That just means that your minds are not forever in the gutter like mine.

POST 14Original post

Thanks Suneet, at least I got a laugh out of you. Tony

POST 15Original post

Hey, Suneet, I just noticed that we are within 6 posts of each other. Must have something to do with attending the University of Florida!
