Suggestion

I know it's a slippery slope, but you should seriously think about camber plates or GT3 lower control arms if you're going to run those tires.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Okay - got my new parts today via UPS. They'll go in on Monday next week. Next DE is mid-May... Nothing like getting shiny new car parts in the mail. GT3 Sways, Tarett Drop Links.... parts is not always just parts. Looking for any recommendations on setup: I plan on setting the front at the middle position (hole 3/5) and the rear 1 hole away from stiff (hole 2/4). I'm running PSS9s and alignment is about 1.6 degrees negative camber front and neg 2.5 rear. Anyone have a different starting point for the sway settings?

POST 2Original post

I have the same set up. It will make a huge difference. However, don't have my alignment settings w/me. Went from full soft to one before full hard on both front and rear about a month ago after spending one full year of street driving. It feels great. I am sure other people will chime in but I am in the camp with keeping the front and rear in the same setting.

POST 3Original post

Doug those are good initial settings that should help overcome understeer. Factory GT3 is 1 off full stiff front and rear. The car pushes too much for my taste like that. Also, don't be afraid to fine tune the car by only moving one side by itself. Nothing says you have to move the left and right side of the front bar 1 hole in either direction. You can take a 1/2 move.

POST 5Original post

nice and shiny!.... so you are using the wheel carrier bolt to mount the front DL?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have no idea.... too busy lately to do the work myself. Am I missing something? Should I talk to my shop first? I'll be at Kershaw, Carolina Motorsports Park. Carolinas event. Can't make Memorial Day weekend because it's PorscheFest for Carolinas Region and I'm one of the planners. Autocross, Concours, Gimmick Rally.... Photo op at the Biltmore Estate.... and we have incredible roads here.... banner weekend to be sure. Have to look too closely for the twisty road sign up front, but they're twisty.

POST 7Original post

Any reason for so much camber in the rear? I like to run equal or more camber in the front personally. From my experience you will notice more understeer with the GT3 bars; the front bar is really big in comparison. They are adjustable; mine are set now Front is one from full soft; rear is one from full stiff.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6530287

The -2.5 I quoted in the rear might be less, maybe -2.1. When I have the new sways installed, I'll check, but I will say, at the current setup, the car is quite neutral - very balanced to my taste. Has some power-on understeer, that's controllable, but I'd like to increase oversteer to keep from having to trail brake to get the car to rotate easier. As for the front camber, I'd have to add camber plates to increase from stock, I've already slotted the towers to add a bit... Tires are wearing quite well at my current settings, driving aggressively on twisty mountain roads.... Almost no "slab" driving. Putting on PS Cups for the next DE...

POST 9Original post

the front DL doesnt look long enough to attach to the shock body... judging by the length of the bolt it looks like it will mount via wheel carrier... from what Ive seen, at full wheel lock, mounting the front DL on the wheel carrier will result in pulling the sway bars slightly outwards (since it is to short)... longer DL mounted to the shock body will keep the sway bars keep proper orientation. I dont think its a big issue, but it does put stress on things at full lock.

POST 10Original post

but isnt the DL length adjustable? It looks like it is at the shortest length and may have threads that would extend it the length of the red center piece....? would that change things Ferd.

POST 11Original post

Shiny parts give you a reason to polish the bottom side of the car!

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 6530344

I know it's a slippery slope, but you should seriously think about camber plates or GT3 lower control arms if you're going to run those tires. They like alot of camber...like twice as much as you've got up in the front now. You may find yourself chasing understeer with the new setup and thinking it's bars when it's actually the front tires not being happy. Andy

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6531018

Thanks for the advice. I've been thinking about going with adjustable control arms if I want to add more camber in the future. You're right that it's a slippery slope... However, if the slope continues... next big investment will probably be in harnesses and GT3 seats. Then sometimes I wonder why the heck I didn't just start with a GT3!

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 6531081

Don't we all. I quickly remember that I can't afford to crash a GT3 at the track though. Not that I could really afford to crash the 996 either...but it'd be a much smaller hit to the wallet. If you haven't already purchased tires think about Toyo R888's. They are much less finiky to pressures / temps / camber and you can still get along at a pretty good clip with them. PSC's are great and really fast when they're dialed in though!

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 6530937

no... you dont want to extend them to much, it will weaken the DL. The adjustment is to mostly take the tension off (and of course the adjustability). The OP has PSS9's and the DL mounts is in the upper half of the dampner...
