Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have a hard top fitted for the winter and will wait to the Spring now before it comes off I will see what the hood is like then.

Suggestion
Store with the top closed, clean and treat as noted above, and be careful how you clean the rear window (if it is plastic) to avoid scratches, and you should be good.

I actually just did some work on my top (I replaced the front plastic panel that the canvas sits on top of.

If the Canvas were to stretch, you could easily tighten the fit by removing the metal front lip clamp that runs the width of the top just under the front of the frame, pulling the Canvas forward until it was tighter, bending the Canvas around the front lip and re-installing the lip clamp.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My Cab is stored away for winter hibernation. Should I store it with the top up, top down, or partway between? I understood that leaving the top up can cause stretch in the fabric. Leaving it down can leave fold marks. But, I'm concerned that partway up/down leaves the mechanism under load and also concerned that, with battery out, the system might loose it's calibration. Am I overthinking this?
Just IMO
1) these tops are getting old anyway if they are the original.
2) Someone who comments on my "fold marks" will be thankful I have small feet.
3) These cars came with or had a hard top as an option for (I'm assuming) driving in winter, so storing it down shouldn't be a big deal.
4) These cars had hard tops as an option so (I'm assuming) it's fine to leave the top up for an extended period of time, such as winter.
5) I wouldn't leave it halfway. It seems sometimes these cars are looking for a reason to cost us money, and half way on a cab seems to be (I'm assuming) a decent enough reason for them to feel like having an issue and thus costing the owner money.
Tips if you want a great looking and lasting cabriolet top:
1) Never wash with soap & water (water only)
2) Sticky tape roller weekly
3) Every other year, wash with RaggTopp Cleaner, and after thoroughly dry, treat with 3-4 light coats of RaggTopp Protectant
4) Store with top closed
5) Use a car cover for storage
6) Don't park where you can get tree sap
7) Clean up bird bombs immediately (water only)
I've never heard of a top stretching itself too much by remaining closed.
With all three Porsche cabs I have owned, they have always been stored with the top closed all year around with the rare exception of a couple of days at a time left open.
They have all been plenty tight/taught when closed with no sags or creases.
The natural tendency of fabric is to shrink through cycles of wet/dry and it seems to me like this applies to these fabric/rubber tops as well.
Store with the top closed, clean and treat as noted above, and be careful how you clean the rear window (if it is plastic) to avoid scratches, and you should be good.
I overwinter my cabs with the top up and covered. It is not going to stretch the cloth. Depending on the year of your car = plastic or glass rear window can = cracked rear window if plastic. If plastic, pick up a "window pillow" from Mid-America Motorworks. Do not know if they still offer one in the Porsche section but they are in the Corvette section IIRC.
I would store it with the top up. I actually just did some work on my top (I replaced the front plastic panel that the canvas sits on top of. This involved removing the Canvas completely from the front portion of the top.
If the Canvas were to stretch, you could easily tighten the fit by removing the metal front lip clamp that runs the width of the top just under the front of the frame, pulling the Canvas forward until it was tighter, bending the Canvas around the front lip and re-installing the lip clamp.
That said, I doubt that the Canvas will stretch much over time. If you store it down, I suspect you could get wrinkle marks in the Canvas.
IIRC, my previous Cab, a '95 Cab. actually said something in the owner's manual about not leaving the top down for more than a few days. There was no reason but it definitely said something like that.
I was 'advised' the glass windows can foul the rear catch mechanism! I assume you find this is not the case.
I have heard & witnessed two cases where the hood fold has fouled and torn right in the middle with same catch mechanism (I think its the same anyhow) Has anyone else had the mid hood tear occur in this way?
I have a hard top fitted for the winter and will wait to the Spring now before it comes off I will see what the hood is like then.

By "Hood" (British-speak?) I'm guessing you mean "Top" (American-speak). I've not seen a Hood tear. Does it tear from the front (towards the "bonnet") or at the rear (towards the "boot")? I know that my Hood has some wear at the rear in the middle. It turns out that there is a plastic part (

) that covers a latch back there which my car did not have. I think Porsche created the part after seeing the Hood wear and started putting it on later production cars (mine is a '99). I bought the part and clipped it on and it seems to have eliminated the wear on my Hood.
I have seen this on the 'Top' of a 98 right in the middle so directly above the gearbox tunnel (Middle) and in a position just at the front of the rear seats (so 6" behind the drivers shoulder position) mine had an L shaped rip about 3" x 3". A friends 2003 996 did the same but put a 9" rip in the same position as the top came up so killing the 'top' . O_Sr
