Hi folks, I have a 996 2004 C4S and the engine compartment blower fan doesn't seem to work. I've checked the fuse and it's ok. Could be the relay - anyone know where the bank of relays is located in the car, or know of any other reason why the fan doesn't switch on? I must point out that I get no warning lights on my dash it's just that the engine compartment temperature seems excessive - perhaps this is normal??

Let me put it another way, does anyone know under what circumstances the engine compartment blower motor comes on? How frequent should the blower motor come on?

I take it we are talking about the engine bay cooling fan ?
If so, I have only ever heard mine come on once ! This was after a 3 hour drive to the 'Ring ! and it came on for about 3-4 mins..
Even if I leave my car running on tick over while I clean it and check the oil it does not come on.. (does my car have a fault ? - :shock: )
I have heard Dave's Turbo one come on a few times !

I was told mine was broken yesterday ! Probably why I v`e not heard mine either then !!!
Saying that, sat in traffic for an hour after it was fixed.............. and still never heard it !!
It's not like a 993 where you had the oil cooler up front which you could hear, although I never never hear mine when driving my 996 even in traffic
Good to hear it's fixed, did you find out the cause ?
Never heard any noises from teh front but regularly out the back :wink: It took about 6 months before I witnessed the engine fan come on (to my relief). Same symptoms, seemed hot, a lot of latent heat for ages but it comes on and goes off just when it needs to. My neighbours 997 never seems to come on either if that helps.
Thanks guys - i think that confirms it. The engine blower rarely comes on if at all - it's just over engineering by porsche to protect the engine in the extreme!
