Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just changed my gear oil and reverse light switch on my 98 C2 Cabriolet Now I have two retro questions. 1. I don't have a lift available and have to make do with extended ramps and jack with stands. I read the 101 projects for your (Or my) 996 and it suggests a jacking point in the middle at the front. To allow jacking and the two factory jack points to be used for the stands. Now my 996 has plastic under panels I assume they all do. The book appears to have these removed but is that what you do jack it up, remove the panel to make the jacking point visible or do you jack it up with the plastic panel covering the central point will this not damage it? 2. The gearbox drain and fill plugs had what looked like brass ends and were heavy but these were not magnetic nor did they have a washer. I had a new replacement and this was all Aluminium very light and had a washer and again no magnet Now I thought they should be magnetic any one know what is expected. & I can confirm the gear oil smells horrible and it was black! Hope you can advise Thanks O_Sr
