Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wanted to pose a question, I have been looking for a roof rack for my 2002 996 Carrera. Now I can find them, but they cost roughly 600.00(ouch!) Noticed that the 991 roof rack for the same style of car cost considerably less. to the tune of only about 450 new, used around 200.00 not bad. My questions are as follows 1. Are the mounting points the same for both, meaning are the mounting areas on the top of the car the same(different position I assume, but are the mechanicals the same) 2. I assume the width of the 991 is wider than that of the 996. if this is true then could one take the 991 roof rack apart, cut the aluminum extrusions down, reassemble and boom I have a working roof rack. looking at photos and seeing the two cars side by side, I think things are pretty close, the profile hasn't changed much over the years, just evolved. Porsche is pretty good at keeping things stock standard that work and not changing it up. Any thoughts on this? Can it be as simple is just cutting 1-2" of the width of the aluminum extrusion. Or am I just reaching here and need to buck up and spend the 600.00 on an over priced roof rack for my car. Tried telling my wife I need to trade in on a newer car, but she didn't go for it.
