Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey there y’all, I’m looking to get an exhaust for my Boxster 2.7L and have been eyeing the non valved Topgear catback here, Porsche 987.1 Cayman & Boxster Cat Back with Stainless Tips . I messaged the Topgear owner and he said the non valved is the same as the valved exhaust with the valves open, so the non valved just lacks a quieter mode. Does anyone have any experience with this one or the valved version? Im mainly concerned with drone at highway speeds as I haven’t found too much discussions about it online. If you have a non valved does it drone at highway speeds? And if you have a valved does it drone with the valves open? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Currently have a non-valved custom catback exhaust on my 981 Cayman (2.7L). Not exactly sure which one as it was installed by one of the previous owners. It drones A LOT. Anytime you're over 75-80mph it gets hard to hear the person in the passenger seat, as well as the music playing. Don't get me wrong I love the way my car sounds and it brings me a lot of joy when I'm ripping it on some back roads. I work from home so it's not much of an issue for me, but if you have a lot of long highway commutes 45m+ it will get really annoying really quickly. Almost to the point where you'd want to wear noise cancelling headphones. Hope this helps.

POST 3Original post

Get an AWE exhaust … no drown and makes a great rip note … like a 3.6 GT3 . Great exhaust tho. Nice and polished out… look them up, actually a Really great company

POST 4Original post

EVERY aftermarket exhaust is going to drone - end of story. Fact of life. I had the Topgear valved exhaust on my Cayman and the drone with the valves open was pretty bad. I toned it down somewhat by fitting an acoustic bass trap in the boot area and by fitting two of these in each exhaust tailpipe. They are very clever - you can adjust the volume and almost eliminate the drone - but you'll never get rid of it altogether: Adjustable Exhaust Silencer Baffle - Stainless steel As reviewed in Max power and Fast Car magazines!
