I want to change the standard
exhaust
tips on my
Boxster
987.1
to a twin tail pipe.
Which is the best value for money to buy?
I'm based in the UK.
Best value? They pop up here from time to time when someone changes exhausts or cosmetics as you are considering, they aren't that heavy so shipping shouldn't be the mitigating factor.
I'd say the nicest are what Porsche originally installed as optional equipment called "Sport Tailpipes". Order Code was XLS and I believe the part number is 987 111 981 00. You might find some used ones, but they're also likely still available to order from Porsche. Pricey though.
A relatively nice cheaper option is made by Soul... they have different styles in shiny, brushed and black stainless.
I did think that but I guess it's a waiting game...
Thanks pal. Trouble with buying directly from
Porsche
is it will demand more premium.
I did look at the
Soul tips
but I wasn't too keen on it. Any other brands that look similar to OEM?
FWIW - my stock dual tips are from a
987.2
S where the owner wanted something different. I paid $100 for them. Polished them up and they look really good.
Lucky bugger 🤣. I need to find one too...
Seen a few on eBay for 300 or so. But for that price I would go aftermarket and get the xpipe.
Fabspeed.com MaxFlo True X pipe with a choice between 4 tip compositions/material. I did mine a cpl years ago and quality /worksmanship is superb!
I'm very happy with the
Fabspeed
X-pipe with dual tips that I fitted to my
981
. Well made and, even with shipping from the USA to Australia, they only cost around 60% of the genuine
Porsche
sports tailpipe. I prefer the looks to the
Porsche
tailpipe and maybe there's some small benefit to gas flow if
Fabspeed
's marketing has an element of truth.

BTW, I recently extended my warranty for another 4 years after the OPC did the required "111 point check" to ensure that the car qualified. I was concerned that they would point out the non-standard tailpipe as they often make a big deal about only fitting genuine Porsche parts for warranty purposes. It obviously doesn't impact the reliability in any way, and I'm glad that common-sense prevailed.
I've got the original dual tip exhaust off of my 06 Cayman S and will sell you, taken off @ 17,000 miles.
Heading to work, I'll photo it when i get home.
Good to hear the MaxFlo X pipe is also recommended here. My friend recently acquired this
Boxster
987.1
and he got some plans to make it more appealing to him. Mostly stock at the moment. Got to finish installing the headache rack,
tonneau covers
, and lift kit on the Silverado this week before we can clear the garage.
I have a
987.1
Cayman S
factory twin outlet that I could sell if you don't get a response from reelization
Cheers,
Julian
Much appreciated! Can't seem to send PM's at this point so I'll message you when I can....
