Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

This time I drilled a little hole through the stub, then used a piece of paperclip to make a ring through that hole and the one on the damper arm tip.

Also had to use some hot melt glue to help anchor the plastic piece in place because over time it had worn the hole bigger in the glove box liner and was slipping.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's a little plastic piece that holds the hands for the glove box compartment door. http://imgur.com/tLo9e4B both sides are broken, so the arms have retracted up. thanks!

Can't see it in this part diagram http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=809-03

POST 3Original post

Remove one and look for a part number. Every Porsche part has a part number on it somewhere.

POST 5Original post

That part broke on mine also. The 997 only has the damper on one side so it takes twice the strain. I ordered one from the dealer ($9 + tax and my time to go fetch it), it broke shortly after I replaced it. This time I drilled a little hole through the stub, then used a piece of paperclip to make a ring through that hole and the one on the damper arm tip. Also had to use some hot melt glue to help anchor the plastic piece in place because over time it had worn the hole bigger in the glove box liner and was slipping. For a $100K car the interior bits are appalling.

POST 6Original post

Those clips look so flimsy. I would be thinking along the lines of using flat strip magnets (top center) to hold the door closed. Just a thought. Where there is a will there is a way.

POST 7Original post

Both of mine were broken as well. I fixed it using a couple of zip ties and small washers First remove the cover from the glove box. You can see that the part is pressed into a squared opening. Use needle nose pliers to squeeze the tabs and push it out of the hole. Then thread a zip tie that is thin enough to bend around the little bar at the end of the arm (the part that attached to the hook on the little part that broke off) through two small rubber washers. One washer on each side of the squared hole. The washer on the inside between the cover and glove box will keep the head of the zip tie from going back through the hole, the other one just acts a bumper for the arms. Trim the excess zip tie so that the cover can be screwed back in place properly. You can face the arm either way so the open side shows or not. Here it shows the open side of the arm so you can see the zip tie
