This is not a probability of success.

Excellent tip SeanD; I think you were the one who advised me a few months ago to use silicone which I duly did.

Use silicone grease around the mechanism for the hatch and the seals - only silicone or the seals so it won't destroy the rubber.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, My roof has developed a lot of squeaks and rattles, particularly at low speed. Only cure is to open it and go a bit faster. Any ideas on quietening it down please.
Go get what every Targa owner eventually ends up with. A tube of silicone grease. Applied sparingly to the mechanism it will fix 95% of the issues first time. For the other 5% I have found the following works very well. Apply a bit more grease and then go for a long drive with the heating on full and fans on full. Basically get everything very warm. Then open the roof and turn the heating off, let it all cool down, then close the roof.
This was something someone else passed onto me and it really does work. Squeaks, rattles all gone every time.
OPC Reading wanted £90, one hours labour, to sort it. On your advice I went to Halfords a bought a tube of Teflon grease for mountain bikes. Applied liberally, the result ------- SILENCE. Thank you so much.
Excellent tip SeanD; I think you were the one who advised me a few months ago to use silicone which I duly did. However I bought a can of silicone spray - is this different to silicone grease? How does teflon grease differ from silicone or are they one and the same thing?
As you might tell, my own roof rattles at low speeds too - embarrassing when you are ferrying passengers as I was the other day.
Welcome to the forum TonyP. What spec is your Targa, colour etc...any pics?

My 02 Targa has recently developed a squeak as well, and as suggested above it does seem to come from the rear as opposed to from the "roof" itself.
Regarding the silicon, where do you apply it?
Is it a case of opening the roof and applying it to the "runners"?
Thanks in advance.
Hi, Its a 2002 Tip. Gunmetal grey, with black leather, one owner for 5 years. Best part is £6k worth of carbon fibre inserts.Wouldn't have spect it myself but there you are! 4th Porsche, but first one I've paid for myself rather than a co. car so its rather special. Pics when I work out how to do it.
I rolled back the roof and applied it on my finger to the four sides of the bearers that the roof squeezes up into when closed. Works immediately. Great tip!
Use silicone grease around the mechanism for the hatch and the seals - only silicone or the seals so it won't destroy the rubber. I got mine fron a diving shop.
