8am Dec 19th I called 1-800 PORSCHE and had my 'same as new' white 06CS loaded on a trailer and trucked back to the dealer for examination, diagnosis and emergency surgery. I threatened the Porsche operator's life if she sent somebody who didn't know how to trailer this car. I have experienced more damage from careless towing or trailering than what needed to be repaired in the first place. That was not going to happen this time with this car. The guy they sent had good equipment and 40 years experience and told me right off he had been specifically "for-warned"...they're scared of me already...he did a very good job.
The dealer took the car in and gave me a loaner Porsche SUV. Only problem so far, not having use of the car over the weekend and missing a half day of work in the office. There was silence all day then at 6pm a phone message was left by the service manager to tell me they were into it enough to know they are replacing the clutch. (Wonder if it's the loose bolt thing?) He said he would call tomorrow and give me more detailed information. Man I hate to hear that. I wonder which one of the culprits I've read about here, struck at 1352 miles. I was breaking in the thing like it was a new born baby. It had never been above 4k rpm (as manual directs), the clutch and brakes were stepped on like raw eggs with bare feet. Something went really wrong in there all by itself. I hope to find out tomorrow and pass it on in Chapter 3 of this saga. Tune in later to find out what was broken, how they fixed it, how long it took and what reassurances they expect me to swallow?
As an aside, today was my first experience driving a Cayenne, the loaner. I drove it all over town. (I expect the Porsche is a lot more expensive, the materials and build quality seemed excellent) I wouldn't trade my 470GX for it for love nor money. The Lexus beats it hands down for comfort, room, quiet, ride, smoothness, sound, ee gagets, ergonimetrics, engine torque, towing capacity, just about every category I can think of. In my opinion it is a better and more versitile daily driver, period (especially for the money). The brakes and cornering in the Porsche might be better; might be, but the ride is a lot more harsh. I'm convinced Porsche needs to stick to sports cars even if a million Cayenne owners disagree.
jb,
Sorry to hear about your CS. Hopefully they'll get that resolved and get the car back to you soon.
I test drove a Cayenne S just for kicks, and I agree, i acatully liked my wife's BMW X3 (6-speed) better, but I'm no expert in SUVs. I have an overall disdain for anything with more than two-doors.
Boy that sucks.....! So sorry to hear about your failure. Sounds like the flywheel bolt issue. Keep us posted.
jbreiner - Thanks for the update... maybe you were driving the car too easily? Nah, just kidding...
From the evidence I've seen here, everyone that has had this clutch problem, got it fixed fairly quickly - seemed like 2-3 days - and I've not heard of any re-curring problems. thanks again for chapter 2 - looking for ward to chapter 3 and the epilogue.

Hopefully you won't have to wait to long as the holidays a lot of people take off and they could be shorthanded at this time.
