Looking for input from previous Porsche owners...
How much does
typical
brake work cost? Let's say after a few years you take it in and it needs brakes -- what kind of cash are we talking about? Rough estimate...
Is anyone aware of an estimated / rough price list for cost of maintenance on the Cayman?
Rotors will run you around $500.00 for parts to cover all 4 corners. Pads are about another $150.00. There is a great article on the site about how to replace the pads and the rotors are on by just a couple of screws (when the wheel bolts aren't in). You will likely need a puller to get them off, but that's no biggie either. Given that parts are about $650.00 you are looking at about 3 hours af labor, if you go to the dealership it may be over $1,200.00, and they may not be as kind on the price of the parts as the internet parts stores are either. The actual brakes (pads and rotors) are decidedly low tech. Of all the work on your car that you might consider an outside garage for, this would be a good one. The brakes on this car are so good and really over-done, though, that if you aren't tracking your car you should get 40-50K no sweat.
even if you dont DIY, but bad from suncoast porsche. they are some 40% less than normal dealers. bring the pads to the place you want the work to be done.
Mooty I think you meant to say "buy pad" not "but bad" in your post above didn't you?
man, my typing always sucked, now it's beyond belief!
glad you can decipher it.
Oil Change Price Socal?
Does Anyone Know The Average Price For An Oil Change From The Dealer? I'm A New Owner Of Theh S 06 / Artic Sil W Sport Des Rims.
Thanks.
If I remember correctly, right around $300.
To add to the topic, how much does it cost to replace the clutch and how frequently is that needed given daily driving and 3-4 track days a year?
Getty - Price will vary depending on the prevailing shop rate in any geographic area. That said, if all you want is an oil change - make sure you tell the service writer that's
all
you want, and that you
don't
want the low-mileage service. If you don't, they'll do the low mileage service as outlined in your warranty book with all the inspections, etc. That's what costs about $300. An oil change by itself should run between $130-150. If you're a member of PCA, most dealerships will also give you a discount - mine gives me 10% across the board.
Do a search on "oil change" (without the quotes) and you'll find more than you ever wanted to know on this topic.

Additionally...
How much can an owner DIY and not void the warranty, ie oil changes, perishable part replacement of brakes and the like. Does Porsche require service intervals to be completed at the dealership and any type of service reset tool, like BMWs? Is there any type of stamped service date of inspections at these specific intervals that will maintain resale?
I plan to discuss these topics with the dealer this weekend to better understand the true cost of ownership, but thought asking the current Porsche owners on this forum would give some insight.
In the US, at least, your DIY (or independent shop) servicing will not jeopardize the new car warranty unless you screw up something. If a service related part or function results in a warranty claim you may need to document the service interval and that it was done. Keeping a log will generally suffice, together with receipts for parts. Oil changes (very simple) and brake pad/rotor changes (also very simple) are obvious DIY tasks. However, if you use a non-Porsche part that fails, you'll have to look to the part maker, not Porsche for coverage.
