Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

So far it has worked seamlessly and the sound quality is better than the old PCM 1 it replaced.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hiya, Just bought my old Turbo back. Looking at what out there to upgrade the stereo? I heard Porsche have done a upgrade for the 996...Any experience with this and others. Looking for Android compatibility and ok with the standard speakers?? Cheers Dan

POST 3Original post

PCCM+, I have had it for a couple of years and totally modernises the car. It is also plug an dplay utilizing all the original aerials and connectors. You do have to install the provided Porsche Microphone though. https://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/classic/genuineparts/producthighlights/pccm/ I got mine for 1200 EURO and fitted myself. I have heard eye watering prices for fully installed at Porsche.

POST 4Original post

For reference, the one in mine posted above is an Xtrons and are £130: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/305044207195 They are plug and play with the connectors already in the car but obviously, if you want dab, you have to purchase their dab receiver and aerial (think it's about £60).

POST 5Original post

I replaced my Kenwood DNX7170DABS headunit with this Sony one: https://www.halfords.com/technology...r-stereo-718326.html?stockInventory=undefined The Kenwood unit was pretty awful to be honest, even though it was £700 it was very much style over substance. Plus, the volume buttons failed and only worked half of the time!! The Sony unit is 100 times better than the Kenwood one, CarPlay is far more responsive, sound it much better, interface is really simple and easy to use and is far more responsive than the Kenwood one.

POST 6Original post

Pioneer do a decet one that seems pretty popular apple play and all that too

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Many thanks for the replies, was away last week so didn't log in. :thumb:

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Did you have to specify what car you were buying it for, to receive the correct plugs etc? I would want DAB, I wonder if its any good...

POST 9Original post

IME DAB is tricky to get a good signal with unless you start looking at horrid external antennas. If you're in London or a big city you may be ok but it's extremely patchy for me.

POST 10Original post

Do you need a surround, to ensure no gaps around the edge of the unit, specific to Porsche? If so, where do you get one from? Sorry for the basic question. David

Connect2 make one. There are about 15 years of threads on here covering what parts work, use the search

POST 12Original post

It would be useful to have extra info saying whether your car is an early 996 or a later MOST model, fitting is very different between the two.

POST 13Original post

I’ve just fitted one of these Android units https://a.aliexpress.com/_mtJuhKA from AliExpress Clearly made to look like PCCM+. It has wireless CarPlay and AndroidCar unlike PCCM+ for a tenth of the price It fits with no additional surround and comes with correct harness adapter to make it plug and play. They also have adaptor for Bose if you need it. So far it has worked seamlessly and the sound quality is better than the old PCM 1 it replaced.

POST 14Original post

Thanks for the info regarding the surround etc. The 'built-in' surround and wiring loom make the Ali Express version very cost effective solution. I shall update my profile to include my 2001 C4 996.1.

POST 15Original post

Hi andy350z, That looks like a very cost-effective option. Can I ask which spec model you opted for e.g., 2GB/32GB or one of the higher RAM/ROM options? Also, did you use the existing Porsche microphone, or do you have to install the one supplied? Any thoughts/advice is appreciated. Cheers, Adam
