Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The new module was installed by another company who programmed the existing key to it but didn't mention (and I didn't think of it) to bring the second key with the car.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I had to have a new security module on my 996 convertible due to a water leak caused by a Porsche specialist not unblocking the rear drains properly  The new module was installed by another company who programmed the existing key to it but didn't mention (and I didn't think of it) to bring the second key with the car. As a result, my second key won't start the car. I understand that to add the key I need a key serial number - does anyone know how you can get that from an existing key or is that not correct? Thanks for looking and any advice is very much appreciated

POST 2Original post

I have been told that you can't reprogramme a new or existing key to the car unless the key comes with the serial number, which is only on the tag that comes with the key. How did the company that coded your first key do it - can they not recode your spare key?

Info from deMort in this thread should be of use --> http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?...ays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=key+programming

POST 4Original post

...you'll definitely need to buy a new key head from Porsche; this will come with the 16 digit serial number required to program the key to the car...£215 plus vat at my opc recently Oh and then you'll need either Porsche or a specialist to do the programming

POST 5Original post

There is a bloke who has found a supplier of new key remote boards for these cars. He can supply and program a new key head remote for £150 no need to visit a porsche dealer for parts or service. He travels the UK doing this. https://www.facebook.com/pixelsfixe...c4wRjfUpxN4d4FfZGXR3n4K5QJj4z3qeT5hhCLjVPW5Zl https://pixelsfixed.co.uk/ Save yourself £200 on the dealer price.
