I changed my habit slightly to apply more accelerator and the symptom stopped.
Leading evidence: 'Replace habit slightly' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace habit slightly' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Over the last several weeks, I've notice that when I drive down the road anywhere between 10 to 50 mph and car (at times) does not seem to run smooth.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a base Cayman with about 500 miles on it. Over the last several weeks, I've notice that when I drive down the road anywhere between 10 to 50 mph and car (at times) does not seem to run smooth. It's not very noticable and doesn't do it all the time.
I use
Chevron
gas and I've owned other Porsches (2002 and 2006 Boxsters).
I don't think it's me (or maybe it is). I wanted to see if anyone else had a similar type of problem, before I take it to the dealer and get the response, "that it's normal". Thanks in advance.
What gear are you in? Lots of folks with new cars lug them with the wrong rpms/gear. Put some boot to it and see if you still have the same results and let us know.
I think you'll find that the car loosens up and performs noticebly better after you break it in a little more. Maybe at 1,500 miles. Also, if you were not in the break-in period, I would say you are lugging it slightly. 3800 to 4000 RPM is a bit conservative. I had a 2001 Boxster and now a base Cayman. It took me a while, but I adapted to the difference in gear ratios or whatever it is that requires that you rev the Cayman higher to get better performance.
Could just be due to a new engine that is breaking in, quality of gas, engine temp, gear selection etc - or may be a more serious issue?
My engine has been as smooth as butter since new.
During my first 500 miles I had a symptom that may or may not be the same as you described. During city driving while maintaining flow of traffic speeds the car would sometimes stumble when accelerating. What I figured out was while I was maintaining a constant speed I had barely any pressure on the accelerator and upon the slightest acceleration the car would "hick-up" (technical term). I changed my habit slightly to apply more accelerator and the symptom stopped. This was happening in the mid to high 2000rpm range.
When I was test driving couple of
Caymans
(mine is still not in), I noticed same behavior. Could it be a bit higher moisture content in the gasoline?
I heard some people on other forums complain about that lately.
Skip the gas station if you see truck dumping fuel into the storage tanks at the gas station. It stirs up water that has settled at the bottom of the storage tank.
I would vote on new engine breaking in. I could swear that even now that I am over 5K miles......it still seems to get better every mile that passes. Gets smoother, stronger,.....hope it stays that way!
My 2 cents - I have a Cayman as well and it took a while to get a feel for when the engine was happy under different conditions. I always run one gear lower than any other car I have had. If you are concerned, call or take it in for a checkup, it is under warrantee and would not cost you anything. Worst case they will tell you to try another gas station, however... As for water in gasoline - this is not likely. Consider that the liquid in the gas tank is very well mixed and you will not have pockets of water coming through the fuel system.
If you had enough water in the gas to make it stumble you would be complaining about starting problems as well.
For me it depends on where I'm driving. If I'm puttin' down to the store in traffic I'm definetly not winding the car up, what's the point? I've found that the CS and my 911 (sold for CS) are both happy hovering at 3k rpm with no issue. I may be alone here, but I've found that Porsches don't need to be driven at high rpm for any other reason than you
want
the performance, they've got plenty of pull at 3k shift points in cruise mode. Somewhere along the line, I'm guessing in the early-mid 60's, Porsche got the reputation for the need to be driven at high rpm which was true on the track and I'm guessing that bled over to the daily driver and is still with us today.
Regardless of my opinion, drive it where you are comfortable and have fun.
