Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

All, Is it just me, or does this keyfob piss you off continuously? I seriously hope they change the design of this... I'm constantly unlocking my doors accidentally. No horn sound! What the hell is that about? I always have to grab my door handle and check just to make sure because the damn keyfob is so touchy! I'm REAL tired of popping my front boot and hatch accidentally. I've gone out to my garage after having parked my car, and notice "Huh, my interior light is on." Then I see that either the hatch or front boot is popped... grrrr... and when it does that, it unlocks the doors for "x" number of seconds, too. It's just a bad design. The buttons to do all of this should be counter-sunk on the keyfob so that pressure from your pocket won't unlock or pop anything. Thankfully, though, this is my only complaint. But damn it pisses me off almost daily! Brad

POST 2Original post

I gave up all hope of using the key on a keychain or in my pocket for the reasons you described. The best answers for me seems to be this: I just wear it around my neck tucked into my shirt

POST 3Original post

Please note that some of the functionality or lack of, such as no audio confirmation at the time of lock/unlock as well as the popping trunk issue can be addressed by a device developed by www.Mods4cars.com (one of the sponsors of this site) Features incluce: * Remote window control: Easy one-touch comfort operation of windows with the original remote on all models (US and Euro) by holding down the power-locks button. No extra remote fob or reprogramming of the key or car is necessary! * The "Lock-In" feature locks the doors once the car starts moving. In contrast to the original Porsche feature which can only be enabled or disabled at the dealership, this feature is user-programmable and even better, optionally the doors also unlock when the engine is switched off and the key removed. * Home light XL: The Headlights can be activated for 30 seconds at any time by tapping the trunk button on the remote twice. Tapping the button twice again before the time runs out will switch the lights off immediately. * Trunk button delay: Prevents accidental opening of the trunk in most cases. If activated, the trunk can only be opened by holding down the trunk button on the remote for longer. * Chirp on lock/unlock: If activated, the alarm horn will give brief "chirp"signals when locking/unlocking the car. * Auto-Tilt function for the passenger-side mirror on reverse gear. A great addition for cars without seat-memory. * Passenger window auto-up fix for all cars where the window will only roll up automatically once it is past half way. Usually found on 997 Coupes * User programmable: All features can be individually enabled or disabled. Some also allow different personal preferences to be set. All settings are retained even if the car battery is disconnected. * Shop/Diagnose mode: The chip can be set to be completely passive, as if it was not installed at all. It becomes "invisible" and will not interfere with any dealer diagnostic tools. Give them a call and mention the group buy we've had at this site.

POST 4Original post

Although it seems like a good product, those features are really useless to me except for the audible lock/unlock and the hatch popping. If that was $179 or so, it would be worth every penny. No way I'm paying $300 to add it to a $72,000 car, though. $179, maybe. That's a V-Flow intake... money more well spent in my opinion I think Porsche will change the design.. we shall see.. if they do, 1 key is cheaper than that $300 brain module. Thanks for the link, though! I will keep it in mind and see how frustrated I get. Brad

POST 5Original post

You aren't alone; http://www.planet-9.com/showthread.php?t=2118&highlight=key I think you finally learn to keep from doing that over time.

POST 6Original post

You do get more familiar with the design and I believe it may become less sensitive over time. Also, you may wish to take mpollard's advice and purchase a BMW key holster to cover the key when not in use. It works quite well.

POST 7Original post

On the initial group buy for the mods4cars device, there were over 200 people in on it. The price went way down, I think under $200. It has been the most successful group buy to date. I don't think you'll hear many complaints since, given the majority of our very active users purchased one. It is money well spent IMHO.

POST 8Original post

evilb, I thought there were posts in the very early delivery period of the CS where many people complained of this and the Porsche fixed it. My key is not sensitive at all. I have to press pretty deliberately to get it to actuate. Have you asked your dealer about it?

POST 9Original post

There is a TSB on it. To fix it they simply took the delay for the command to go through up a few seconds. Standard is 471 ms, you can get it set at 700ms, 900 ms or 1100 ms. - Suneet

POST 10Original post

Keys evilb: In the thread that Santa Fe referenced above, there is mention of this simple fix if you are so inclined to try it. Some of us have more difficulty than others but definitely a flaw in need of redesign. BOL http://www.wormfodder.co.uk/How to stop your Cayman unlocking.pdf

POST 11Original post

This is the first I've heard off a new TSB. My dealer said he couldn't change it and I would just have to buy a new version of the key - that is as of about three months ago. The only thing I have seen on this forum is the bulletin here: http://www.planet-9.com/files/downloads/3/37/20060714040827_1948_Comfort Key.pdf but that only affects keys issued right after my VIN #. Can anyone post more info about this new TSB?

POST 12Original post

evilb - You should price what a new key costs - they're around $300 and then you have to pay the dealer an hour of labor to program it... either way, not pretty. brad

POST 13Original post

Suneet, really good information for you to post. Thank you very much. I'll check with my local dealer next week as to if they can make the change now (they wouldn't before as I mentioned) and see if I can add anything once he has accessed the information on his system.

POST 14Original post

I thought I was nuts It took me about one week after getting my CS to realize that it was the darn key fob setting off and not me forgetting to close a trunk or hatch. Every morning I would go down to the garage and one of the two trunks were open. I figured it out that the key fob in my pocket was doing this, even though I was one floor away in the house. I found it helps to keep the key right by the door on the way out to garage. That way it's not in my pocket causing problems. I keep it on a separate key chain away from the other keys or crap in my pocket. Seems to work. They need to fix this though, it is annoying. The BMW keys I had over the years are same in design but never had this problem.

POST 15Original post

The key (aka key fob) will seem to be a frustrating little device initially, as it will occasionally allow you to actuate the hood or hatch when that isn't your intention. It does get better (less sensitive over time). An interesting, yet undocumented, feature of the key, is that it is a passive security device. When someone attempts to "car jack" you, merely strike them over the head, rendering them motionless until help arrives ...

POST 16Original post

And Mae West might have had a quote about it as well...
