Yeah Alex i had read during my research that the original dual row hardly ever fails but dealer said the last owner wanted it replacing last year so they did.
Leading evidence: 'Replace last year so they did' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace last year so they did' (1 discussions). Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone,
Thinking of buying 3.4 996 from a dealer who sells mainly porsche.
They offer a 6 month warranty but reading through the details it doesn't cover cracked/damaged cylinder liners or cracked heads.
Should i be worried about this as thought this was the type of issues this engine can suffer with.
They want top money for the car and its done 80k.
Link to car I'm interested in.

Hi,
I wouldn't worry about it on an 80k car. They cracked early on. 3.4 is the more robust engine of the 2 as well. I'm on 150k now with no major engine issues in my 7 year ownership.
Link to the car always helps so you can see if you're being stung or not. :thumb:
Seen this on ebay, recently listed, nice spec's car.
Fair price I think, fairly low mileage these days.
I'd be asking for any receipts for service/repairs/maintenance ðŸ‘
Very tidy condition but like you say, on the high end price wise. The replacement IMS bearing would put me off a bit. Bet that's not covered in the warranty either. 3.4 had a dual row bearing that was the best one they fitted to the 996. The one that's in now is possibly inferior.
Yeah Alex i had read during my research that the original dual row hardly ever fails but dealer said the last owner wanted it replacing last year so they did.
Calling them back tomorrow to talk through the cars history.
They are willing to do videos of the car for me or any ppi.
They also wont budge on the price at all.
I'm about 4hr drive away from them so was thinking of seeing if they will deliver it as i know you get 14 day cooling off period by law that way.

That is top money for a 3.4 imo. I'd want details of the service history and would need to know what the cam deviation was and if the AOS has been changed. Needs to be above and beyond servicing, springs and dampers changed suspension arms renewed as these are end of life at this age. Proactive not reactive maintainance.
If the cam timing has drifted due to worn engine parts.
AOS is the air oil separator - bitch of a job to change and if it goes can be a bit of a headache but not catastrophic. Still on the original on mine at 150k.
That looks lovely and I believe that dealer has a good reputation. As others have suggested, there are some things on suspension that are worth checking as they can be relatively expensive. I would speak with Precision (very local and DeMort works there) about doing an inspection and see how the dealer feels about it.
I drove mine for the 1st time in weeks today and love it!
