When my CS was at the shop last, a tech double-checked the exhaust connections and re-torqued a couple of points, just to make sure.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

This Tuesday morning I took my CS to the dealership to have four things done: 1. fix the last remaining noise coming from the hatch, a sharp tapping heard when driving over bumps 2. fix a new noise coming from behind the seats, a faint tinkling, as of tiny keys on a chain (or of ball bearings?) 3. replace the ground effect piece damaged when the flat happened a few weeks ago 4. remove the model designation badge from the hatch. I got my CS back tonight and the big story is that 1 and 2 were completely successful. FINALLY! First, the 'hatch clunk' was fixed (some time ago, using Rainer's procedure .) Now, with these last annoying sounds ferreted out, I can finally just enjoy the sweet sound of the CS's motor, the Tubi exhaust and good old wind and road noise. What a difference. If your Cayman or other new Porsche (my 987 Boxster had a defective strut that squeaked) is making noises it shouldn't, don't stand for it! Persist until every little noise is removed under warrantee. It is entirely worth the effort. Good Luck! Snaxster

POST 3Original post

Snaxster, I am so freakin' envious. What dealer did you go to? Is it near Los Angeles, I hope? I have over 4,000 miles now and still do not enjoy driving my car because of the faint vibration in the driver's door panel, the clunk in the hatch and other intermittent noises from the dash and behind the driver's seat. Demonstrating these annoyances to the dealer is virtually impossible when they are intermittent and usually occur at high speeds on the freeway after driving a while. I am seriously considering offering a service rep a hundred bucks to drive me home one night and experience the pain I go through every day.

POST 4Original post

Glad you got those Gremlins sorted. How are you liking your TUBI now that its been on for a while?

POST 5Original post

Hi, what was the tinkling noice? I have the same thing on cold start.. dissapears after first 2 mins of driving. Probably can wait until service time to have it addressed, unless it's something serious. thanks!

POST 6Original post

My car makes a tinkling sound when it is cold too. Is anyone familiar with this sound?

POST 7Original post

Hi, Superbengoshi. I'm sorry your car is plagued by those noise defects. Don't give up trying to get them fixed. Your dealership should take the time to try to reproduce the noises, both by sending a tech on a drive with you and by keeping your car for a tech to test drive. If they care enough and have the skill, they will at least confirm the noises and try to affect fixes. Dealership service departments have a standard way to request help from Porsche when they run out of ideas for fixing an undocumented problem (there's a name for it, but I can't remember it.) The fix for the hatch clunk, though not approved by Porsche, is well documented here by Ranier. See the Articles section. My dealership had an advanced tech perform the procedure and it worked. The door vibration and dash noises you describe would make me nuts. Get them to fix these! If they won't or can't, find a dealership who can (I know not everyone lives near multiple dealerships, but it's worth a try if you can make the trip.) Good Luck. Let us know how you make out. Snaxster

POST 8Original post

Thank you, Will! After driving for a couple of hours today, I'd say the noises are 99% fixed. At this point, I'll live with the little bit that's left rather than have the techs open up my car again. The net result is excellent and quite acceptable. The Tubi exhaust is fantastic. When my CS was at the shop last, a tech double-checked the exhaust connections and re-torqued a couple of points, just to make sure. I feel it's had plenty of time to settle in now, so it should be done. Let me tell you... The sound is so good ("How good is it?") — it's so good that sometimes I'm embarrassed to be driving something that sounds so good. LOL! It's as if I don't deserve it. But there it is, so I'm simply enjoying it. What a blast! Such a beautiful voice. Today the ambient temperature was almost 60 degrees F while I was driving, so I lowered the windows and cranked the heat at times, just to hear the voice of the Tubi-fied CS better. At speed, especially geared down, the howl of the thing echoing off highway dividers and other vehicles is just insane. Hahahaha! I love it, can you tell? If there's a downside, it's that the sound makes other drivers nuts if they're at all aggressive. Oh, well! Snaxster

POST 9Original post

Hi. You know, I didn't ask. But I will; I have some unfinished business with the dealership, so I'll ask them then. Driving today, I thought I heard a little of the sound I previously assumed progressed into the tinkling (a kind of creaking behind the seat on the left), but I did not hear the tinkling itself. If I find out, I'll post the answer. Snaxster

POST 10Original post

Hi, dmk. Positionally, where does the sound seem to be coming from? For example, my car (which also seemed to make the sound more when cold) started making a creaking sound on the left side and behind the driver's seat. Eventually, it seemed to progress to the tinkling sound, which stayed behind the seats, but traveled from side to center or wherever (as if it was ball bearings rolling and clinking together, for example.) As I said to thePurist, I'll ask the dealership what the cause was and report it here if I can find out. Snaxster
