hi I’m Jack. I have an 06
Boxster
that was FINE. IT WAS parked in my SC garage for 6 months when I took it out the 4 on my Tiptronic began flashing. My
Boxster
seems to be going through her gears but 4 keeps flashing with a warning to get it serviced. Is it possible to reset it.? Check engine light was on too. But that corrected on its own with a little driving. Don’t think the sitting was good for it. Any advice is welcomed.
Hi Jack, welcome to Planet-9. I'm going to edit your post to eliminate the underline.. and then move it to the 987 Tech forum where it will hopefully receive more attention.
When you have a chance please do stop back to the
New Member Introductions
and introduce yourself and your Boxster - pics are more than welcome.
Meanwhile, hang on - the thread is being moved...
You said it's going through the gears OK? If you put the transmission into manual mode you can shift from 1 through 6?
It certainly would be worthwhile hooking a
Porsche
-specific code reader to it to see what the transmission control unit thinks is the problem. A tool like Durametric,
Foxwell NT530
, or
PIWIS
would be helpful. A standard
OBD
-II tool won't help much since the CEL isn't on any longer, and
OBD
-II codes are generally only related to emissions-related faults.
Thank you so much for the info. Should I try a reset by disconnecting my negative battery cable for ten minutes and reconnecting?
You certainly can try that, but I don't think that will reset anything except the window end positions... usually if an error is set (and I suspect the "4" indicates limp-home mode) it requires a
Porsche
specific code tool to reset it.
Good luck! Let us know how it works out for you.
It will not Leave 4 won’t. Go to manual goes to P on startup
Thank you will do. Are these mechanics that come to you ok?
You said in your first message "seems to be going through her gears but 4 keeps flashing" - so my question is - if you put the shifter to the left in manual mode, can you shift through 1-2-3-4-5-6? Or does it start out and stay in 4th.
I'm not talking about the display
, I'm talking about the actual transmission.
And as far as a traveling mechanic? I've never heard of one who does Porsche, so I doubt if they'd have the knowledge or tools required to address the issue. Perhaps your best bet is to contact your local Porsche Club of America Chapter (PCA.ORG) and ask if the members have any recommendations for a mechanic local to you.
