Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If so - you can reach down into the bowels of the top area and disconnect the ball-joints that move the top from the arm on the gearboxes for each side.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

My 07 Boxster 's convertible top will not open. After manually unlatching, when I then try the open/close switch I can hear the motor trying but the roof will not open. I can manually pull it back about four inches but that is it. The fuses are fine. Question: how do I get the top into service mode if it won't open? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Does the rear top cover open? If so - you can reach down into the bowels of the top area and disconnect the ball-joints that move the top from the arm on the gearboxes for each side. The top should be able to be moved to open then, or to a service position. I won't try describing this step by step - there are already descriptions of doing this on this website, YouTube and - your owner's manual. A bit of searching should turn descriptions of top repairs up. BTW - when you have a chance how about hopping over to our new member intro section: New member and telling us all about you and your Boxster.

POST 3Original post

Thank you Don for the reply. The rear top does not open at all but I do know about the ball-joints. I will try reaching way down from the inside and see what I can do. Lots of videos on unhooking the top if it is open (owner's manual included) but very few if any if the top is fully closed. Thanks for the tip on the New Member section.

POST 4Original post

The fact that there's no movement of the lid - makes me think perhaps the cable between the motor and gearboxes has a problem, or - which is unlikely - both gearboxes went belly up at the same time. When you mention you "can hear the motor trying" - can you describe that a bit better..

POST 5Original post

After unlocking the top, I then try the rocker switch down by the p brake. As I operate the switch, there is a bump bump (or thump thump) sound coming from the rear of the car. Not sure if it is the motor or a relay or something. The motor does not actually seem to be straining but more like turning on then off (so to speak). Therefore, the bump bump sound.
