Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check literally few days ago and everything looks fresh inside' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'issue' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check invoice' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Now I bought a mobil 1 5w50 because I saw at invoice they used 5w50 oil in the shop after rebuild.

I use Mobil 1 5w40 oil with a mann oil filter and my regular oil change is no more than 5000km/3100miles.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
22 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hello,
I really need an advice that is helpfull, but I already lost any faith.
My
cayman
has enourmous oil consumption and I mean like really bad, but before we dig into the numbers, let me inform you about the car.
Cayman S
, 2006 with 150k km = 93k miles.
Car has rebuilt engine at 135 000km/83 000miles. Almost whole engine rebuilt with some reused parts. Final invoice was 8300€.
Bore scoring is non existing cause of new cylinders. Also done the bore scope a week ago.
I did change an
AOS
at christmas 2020 - 10k km ago.
My driving style is very very hard. I do drive my car almost everytime in the redline, only drive in mountain passes and autocross everytime I put it out.
Max distance on one fuel tank is
no more than 250km - 300km/155 - 185 miles per tank.
At this distance I top-up my oil level with about
1,5 to 2litres
of oil.
If I drive it like a grandpa I am able to do 500 - 600km/ 310 - 370miles at one tank with almost no top-ups. If so, then
no more than 0,5 liter of oil
.
The car is smoking at startu-ps and also for about 200metres of drive, then it stops smoking. It drives well, also no weird noises, no ticking, no knocking...I know boxer engines well as I used to own a gt86 before so I know if there is a non-standard sound.
Also can see some very little drops of oil all over my rear bumper from the exhaust ( pictures included )
More things good to know:
I use Mobil 1 5w40 oil with a mann oil filter and my regular oil change is no more than 5000km/3100miles.
Now I bought a mobil 1 5w50 because I saw at invoice they used 5w50 oil in the shop after rebuild.
So...what do you think about this problem? If I drive hard and top up everytime I come home, the car works well with no signs of demage.
Could this problem be caused by piston rings? Now I bought a engine flush and planning to do oil change in a few weeks.
Please tell me the good news
Dont talk about bore scoring because it was checked literally few days ago and everything looks fresh inside.
One other area which will cause the car to run rich and use a lot of oil is old injectors. I see you have close to 100K miles. Were the injectors replaced with the rebuild?
High oil level and especially
Mobil one
Eurospec (cheap and ubiquitous at Walmart) will spit on the rear bumper cover with greater propensity in my experience. One brand I know will reduce the instances is
Motul
8100. Obviously there is something more going on in this circumstance.
"The car is smoking at startu-ps and also for about 200metres of drive, then it stops smoking."
Smoking at startup may also be a symptom of worn valve guides.
Additional testing will help narrow down the list of possible causes.

A cylinder with low compression may indicate worn or damaged rings, out of round cylinders or damaged valves. If the compression is good in all cylinders then the issue may be valve guide or vacuum /
AOS
related.

Just in case and for FYI for those who might have missed it: Most recent panorama magazine staff writer stated the following:
These engines do not like to be overfilled with oil, the pressure regulator struggles to compensate in this scenario and it leads to premature AOS failure, it's better to be off on the low side by half a quart than overfilled".
Samuelciatko- If your rebuilt engine was broken in properly, allowing the rings to seat against the cylinder walls, then the
AOS
is most likely the issue. Get a 996
Motorsports AOS
or better yet a
Porsche
Motorsports
987.1 AOS
. This unit will provide more vacuum to your crankcase and heads without breaking the fragil
AOS
membrane, thus reducing the amount of oil droplets seen on your deck lid.
Another issue is that your use would put more pressure on the flow of oil around the crankcase. LN makes a deep sump with an X-51 baffle and a windage plate. What the baffle does is to control the oil keeping a good amount close to the oil pickup and preventing slosh around the sump and up the side walls. If you do install this 10 Qt deep sump with the windage plate on top, only run with 1/2 level of oil on your electronic oil gauge. Your engine will have plenty of additional oil deep down in the sump.
Motul 300V
Power is an excellent oil choice. "The SAE 5W-40 viscosity enables to compensate medium engine oil dilution by unburned fuel and maintains a stable oil pressure; Maximum oil film resistance at very high temperature: Engine wear is reduced; Friction Modifier: Maximum power output, decrease operating temperature; Low volatility: Oil consumption is reduced. High shear stability: Stable oil pressure whatever using conditions".
A complete review from Charles Navarro CEO of LN on engine oil and additives relative to bore scoring. Well in the end, he did acknowledge that ZDDP must go. Not because of the the plastic piston skirts but due to new additive regulations coming our direction. Please find a comfortable spot and turn up your light source on the screen. If you drive a
M96
or
M97 engine
car, you should read this white paper.
