Suggestion

Sorry, not a clue about the sensor you are talking about, but I would strongly suggest to replace the 'accordion hose' that connects the AOS to the block as these are 15+ year old plastic hoses..

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Strange Idle Issue followed by a horrible screech on my base '08 Cayman , led to me "popping the hood" and finding the oil filler hose compressed. Quick search online indicated AOS gone bad. so i went at it removing the vacuum hoses to the intake etc etc. The hardest part was a wiring loom covering the rear bolt to the AOS . So in the end i cut a zip tie to free it up a little and a sensor flopped out and i cant't see where it goes .. if indeed it does go anywhere. Has anyone come across this? EDIT: Help identifying connector/part The two wires to this sensor are red/blue and green/white.. any ideas? Also broke the vent pipe that goes to the bottom attachment of the AOS grrrrrr!

POST 4Original post

There was almost no way you were going to take that hose off without it breaking. I broke mine taking it off with the engine out of the car. They get so brittle that just looking at them is enough to break them. As far as the sensor, is that what the picture is? I don't recognize that and I just went through the whole engine. Do you have some more pictures of it?

POST 5Original post

Hah yeah super brittle. I have inserted another picture of it attached to the wiring loom in the car. The blue towels are the hose and the crank case hole where the AOS goes. The cable was folded as such; my thinking is that it is there for a different model AOS and that it was wrapped in situ for that purpose. I may be wrong....

German polymers: You can pay more but you simply can't get less. Someone needs to introduce the VW group to "Lexan".

POST 7Original post

Sounds like you found the unused electrical connector for the PSE option. MY2007 and up have the unused connector. MY2005 & 2006 don’t have it because PSE was not an option then. Help identifying connector/part

POST 8Original post

That would explain why I didn't recognize it. Mine's a 2006 and I definitely didn't have that.

POST 9Original post

The AOS 2.0 used in the 3.4 direct injected engine is a far better design than the one I replaced in the 986 .

POST 10Original post

Thats what I was thinking awesome news thank you!

POST 11Original post

As to the horrible screech... It may have sounded like a slipping belt, but was most likely air whistling by the rear main seal due to the high vacuum in the crankcase when the AOS fails. Drop the tranny, remove the flywheel, and replace the seal or you are likely to have an oil leak. This was the most expensive part of the AOS repair on my 08 Cayman S .
