Hi all, 2006 Cayman S with 82k miles is showing P0344 Camshaft Position Sensor Fault Code. Engine is running really well and isn't smoking. Makes a slight rattle on start up for 1-2 seconds. Cleared the code but it returns when I turn the car on. Car has been stood for a while. I'm thinking of replacing battery and camshaft sensor. Has anyone else had this issue and have any advice? Could it be something bigger causing the issue? Thank you in advance!

I'd suggest doing the battery first (low voltage causes all sorts of warnings on Porsches..) and then if it isn't solved the camshaft sensor would be next (I assume the rest of the error message is something like "Circuit Intermittent"?) If that doesn't solve it - yes - it could be something bigger. Mistiming of a camshaft can be caused by a loose cam-chain (bad chain tensioner) - the rattle you hear on startup might be a clue on that.

Any update on you problem . We have a 2006 Cayman S with 85k miles on it . We had a complete rebuild done last year at about 74k miles . ( one rod bearing went bad after some misfire issues ) New engine is awesome did some upgrades , runs well . Pulled into a gas station to fill upon a road trip . Started the car and got camshaft position faults on both banks as well as misfire faults on all cylinders . Car is running a little rough . Replaced both camshaft position sensors as well as a new battery . Cleared all codes . Started right up and throws the same codes ? Anyone out there have any input . Going to call the shop that did the work and have it brought in . Maybe I’m overlooking something . Wiring looks ok . No bad noises coming from the engine beside rough idle .
