First off, I am a returning member having previously scoured the forums and purchased a
2008 boxster
s, using the nav system guides to install an aftermarket head unit/amp. It was helpful then as it was this past weekend.
While I sold the
2008 Boxster
S, (moved on to to airplanes, Mooney C model!), I recently purchased a 2005
Boxster base
model for my daughter who will be driving soon. I saw a clean car with minimal wear and tear and great service records. But I do have an issue. I knew the car would not be "pristine" as it's a 12 year old car at this point, the aftermarket head unit install had been performed but amp removed (was easy for me to install another amp to get nav system working!), side view mirror switch install upside down due broken tab (easily fixed with emory board), but I'm scratching my head on the central locking system. Here are the "symptoms":
1. Key fob battery replaced, unlocks frunk and trunk. When lock button pressed, red
LED
on center console switch blinks rapidly, but nothing happens.
2. When I manually unlock/lock driver door with key, it only locks/unlocks driver door, not passenger and
LED
on center console switch blinks.
3. When I manually press the center console lock switch, nothing happens, not even
LED
blink.
So...I am unable to lock or unlock the doors with keyfob or center console switch. I am unable to lock the passenger door, only driver door.
I've read that it could be any number of the sensors in the doors or the actual locking mechanisms. Would that explain why there is no
LED
blink when depressing the center console lock switch?
Check the fuse. I took out the fuse for my auto locks with similar results. Also check the security horn. It may be unplugged. I did this because of a security fault that caused the locks try to cycle every time I stopped and then accelerated.
I forgot to mention I checked all the fuses and they were good.
I pulled the passenger side locking mechanism last night and it was "binding" a bit, a little
wd40
and it cycled properly. Now I can emergency lock the passenger door from the key lock but it will not unlock by turning key counter clock wise twice.
On a good note, I can actually lock all the doors at this point and unlock by using inside door handles.
I'm going to pull the driver side tonight due the window is going back up when I open the door.
Check to see if they didn't properly ground one of the wires for the aftermarket head unit. I think there is a anti theft portion that plays with the key fobs.
I will check the ground wires for the head unit. But first, update.
I pulled the driver side locking mechanism. It definitely had a "bind" when using the door handle switch. I cleaned/lubed the mechanism and reinstalled it. I'm still having the same issue which makes me think this is the problem. When I open the door from the inside latch, the window drops and I have no issue closing the door. When I open the door from the outside handle, the window goes back up and only goes back down if I hold the door handle.
I still have no
LED
light when I push the central locking system console switch.
I did make the mistake of not ensuring the key lock was properly inserted so now I can't lock or unlock the driver side door. Will have to pull it again when I get a replacement part.
Anyone have any other thoughts beside checking ground wires on aftermarket head unit?
Is the security horn connected ? Its by the battery. It should beep when there is a fault in the system. If the light on the dash does not come on, there is probably a fault. If the horn is unplugged, it creates a fault and the auto locking wont work.
I checked the security horn. It is present and connected. It does not beep, nor make any other noises when I hit the key fob. I've ordered two door lock mechanism for driver/passenger. I should have them installed this weekend. I'm hoping this will fix the issue (mostly the driver side). If not, I'll look to replace the center console switch.
So...found the problem. I ordered replacement door mechanisms from
amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J3QBVTU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
for $89.99. The were an exact replacement. Once I had both door mechanisms replaced, I reset the windows and the central door locking switch worked!!!! Then I tested the key fob and the locking system is functioning again!!!
Thats great. I took the door panel off mine, found nothing obvious. Then I pulled the window motor off and found lock wires under it and smashed. One small bare spot on one wire. Zip tied it out of harms way and fixed my lock problem. I had the door painted in 2015 and they had it apart and had have done this. I guess it took a while to wear a hole and cause trouble.
Haven't ordered/tried this yet, but probably will
