2006 Boxster S . Engine is stock other than a cat back exhaust which has been on for a while. Car runs great but it threw this code yesterday. I can't see or hear any exhaust leaks. Who has gotten this and what was the fix? Is it an O2 sensor ? Cat? Update . After not driving it for a few days, it went away.

Hi. I had this happen in my 07 as well. Rather than try O2 spacers , I just went ahead and ordered headers with high flow cats and new O2 sensors (all 4) Which is nuts, but that's my OCD doing what it does. From a Porshe sourced table for an '09 2.9L Boxster: P2198 Diagnosis information - DME Lambda correction downstream, bank 1 - rich/lean control limit exceeded NOTE: - Diagnosis detects a deviation between the lambda value measured by the oxygen sensor upstream and the value measured by the oxygen sensor downstream. - The deviation is eliminated through adaptation, a fault is only set once the adaptation limits are exceeded. - The most common fault cause is a leakage between the two oxygen sensors, resulting in the sensor downstream measuring more residual oxygen in the exhaust than the sensor upstream. Diagnostic conditions - Engine running - Oxygen sensing upstream active - No faults detected for oxygen sensor or oxygen sensor heater up and downstream - No fault for secondary air injection, catalytic converter or tank vent entered Possible fault causes - Leakage in exhaust system between the two oxygen sensors - Oxygen sensor upstream faulty (contaminated/aged) Bold by me..
