Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently joined this forum and it seems an age since I start a 'car' thread on a forum. I have mainly been into my 90s Japanese cars. Over the years I have tried most varieties. In the last couple of years I got the Porsche bug after buying a compariatively cheap 986 Boxster S as lockdown started to lift in late 2020. Here is a link to my newbie post showing my existing Japanaese cars and my last 2 Boxsters. http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=1662220#1662220 The Boxsters as mentioned got me the Porsche bug and I had started to lust for a 911. The catalyst for the purchase below as my Dad used to own a lapis blue 996 C4S and I have always liked the rear end. This particular one is quite a late 996 off the production line as was built in early 2005. It left the factory with this spec and was supplied by Porsche Sheffield. 1. Turbo wide-body including sunroof. 2. Turbo brakes. 3. Turbo alloys. 4. MO30 suspension. 5. 6-speed gearbox. 6. Alcantara headlining. 7. 3-spoke steering wheel. 8. Heated seats. 9. Rear wiper. 10. Cruise control. 11. Tinted windscreen. 12. Park assist. 13. Porsche communication management. 14. Bose surround sound with audiopilot. 15. CDC-6 disc autochanger. 16. Bi-xenon lighting system. 17. Sports hardback seats. 18. Door entry guards in stainless steel. 19. Sports exhaust. Modifications on the car include - 1. Bumper grills fitted. 2. 997 gear-shift fitted. 3. Function First gear-knob. 4. Steering wheel re-trimmed by Royal steering wheels. 5. RSS engine mounts. 6. Low temperature thermostat. 7. Dansk sports exhaust. 8. Rear-wiper delete. 9. Helms Holt resonator delete. Before I bought the car and in the last 2 years it has had - 1. New Clutch. 2. IMS & RMS. 3. Power Steering pipes. 4. New Alternator. 5. New coolant exapansion tank. 6. New radiators. Since I have bought the car in August 2022 I have done the following with Nine Excellence. 1. Major service September 2022. 2. New gearbox fluid. 3. New front diff fluid. 4. New passenger radiator. 5. Various coolant pipes replaced. 6. Engine mounts correctly fitted. 7. New key fob covers and batteries. 8. New rubber throttle body mount. 9. Power steering pipe work tidied and securely fastened. 10. Nsf fuel tank strap correctly fitted. 11. 6x new coilpacks and spark plugs. 12. Throttle body cleaned. 13. New NSF inner CV boot replaced. 14. New fixings and screws for under-trays. 15. New wiper blades and wiper arms. 16. New front and rear lower arms, 4 top dog bone arms and various new fixings on rear as various seized. 17. Front to rear brake lines replaced with genuine new parts. 18. Replacement ignition switch. I have some work to be done soon which is the AOS and also the over the gearbox brake-line done. It had been done previously but poorly so getting it done correctly and clipped in using Porsche parts. Aside from this I have ideas of replacing the original Porsche PCCM as it doesnt work the CD and I would like something a little more modern. I am also thinking some new wheels if the right type come up. I was keen to join this forum as imagine it will be a useful resource to see work from fellow Porsche owners and improve my own knowledge.

POST 3Original post

Lots of great points on the car, good work. Hate rear wipers on sports cars and in my experience, found them completely unnecessary. The key refresh, I looked into, mentally expensive I found compared to my R32 days. Can we have more details please? I bought new Porsche badges, but could then only find one side of the cases without spending silly money.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. They may refresh was pretty basic. On my Boxsters I realised you could buy the key cob covers where the buttons where. I did this and the batteries on both keys. It helped especially on my old boosters where they key buttons were badly worn.

POST 6Original post

So long ago since I started the key refresh, can't even remember what I bought other than the badges. In the end, nothing arrived that I thought worthwhile, so I stuck with the tired keys as was. Did she come with those plates? Sound system behaving itself?

POST 7Original post

Congratulations. Sounds like you've had to address some previously questionable quality workmanship and as a result (will) have a lovely, sorted car. I sold my C4 (and previously a Boxster) a few years ago and replaced it with a S2000. I have no regrets other than the forums (such as they are these days) and facebook groups for Japanese cars (to say nothing of the car the shows) being full of bickering and idiots. It's really not my scene to be honest but I like the culture and love the car! You'll find 911uk like a favourite pub in comparison to a noisy sports bar on match night. Welcome.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got the parts (key fob cover and battery from my local Porsche dealer. The private plate is mine. The sound system works OK but the CD player doesnt. I am tempted to change at some stage soon. I am thinking the new Porsche PCCM but put off by the price and the fact an Alpine or similar is a better spec unit and a lot cheaper, from the reports I have read.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks - yeah I have had Nine Excellence sort some stuff which was doesnt 100% to begin with. I have the AOS to be done next and the brake line that goes over the gearbox. The S2000 is a fun car. I had one about 15 years ago. I was tempted by another S2000 in 2020 before I bought my first Boxster but was surprised how much they had jumped up in price from when I last had one.

POST 10Original post

Key fob parts from OPC sounds expensive. Do you have any amps in the Frunk? Guess rip the multi changer out if it doesn't work. I'm old skool when it comes to sounds, vinyl and CDs still my media of choice. Car looks ace and you're clearly giving it some decent attention. :thumb:

POST 11Original post

From one newbie to another, a warm welcome. I recently made the plunge with a 996T coupe manual in Polar Silver. It only came with one key, so I will be needing a spare key. OPC's are very expensive, but unfortunately the way that I have been advised by the specialists. Similar to you, I've had a lot of love for Japanese cars, currently I have an EK9 civic type R, and a mazda 323 famillia gt-x, both will be giving space to the 996 as I won't be able to give them all time.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The parts were quite cheap. I had done on my last silver Boxster as the key fob buttons on that were very worn. On the C4S not too bad but freshens it up. From memory it all came to about £30 and about 5 to 10 minutes at home switching the key fob covers and inserting new batteries.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. Nice turbo. :thumb:

POST 14Original post

Fair play on the key refresh. Maybe I'll revisit.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here is the video I followed when I did my Boxster. I replicated when I did the C4S but ordered the relevent 996 part number instead, from memory. https://youtu.be/BlkR--VTOkk
