You need to see pictorial evidence and the repair bills to a certain the damage levels, if any Chassis damage then best ignored.

Suggestion

Although Cat D is only light damage Chris, unless it's been repaired by a Porsche approved repairer (lifetime guarantee with an annual inspection) I'd be inclined to ignore it, particularly if it's suffered chassis damage rather than just panel damage.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

THought Id found my perfect 996 TT. right coulour ,good spec AND low miles ( http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201405174269116/sort/default/usedcars/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/page/2/radius/1500/body-type/convertible/price-from/22500/make/porsche/model/911/postcode/ct68uf/price-to/25000?logcode=p ) Rang the guy and was told it was a Cat D D'oh The car does look good but is way over priced for a Cat D but not sure Id buy it even at £18k Am I wrong to avoid a Cat D?

POST 2Original post

You answered your own question by asking us! Steer Clear!

POST 3Original post

Although Cat D is only light damage Chris, unless it's been repaired by a Porsche approved repairer (lifetime guarantee with an annual inspection) I'd be inclined to ignore it, particularly if it's suffered chassis damage rather than just panel damage. If you decide to go ahead, get a full independent inspection and don't forget to inform your insurance company. Plenty of better (undamaged?) cars out there I would think. Keep looking. Jeff

POST 4Original post

I thought it should be declared in the advert if it was Cat. D. If so, a bit naughty.

POST 5Original post

Indeed - the irony is that sometimes a car is classed as CAT D due to associated costs rather than the actual damage (all down to money folks!).

POST 6Original post

It does say Cat D on the ad but way over priced!!!!!!

POST 7Original post

You need to see pictorial evidence and the repair bills to a certain the damage levels, if any Chassis damage then best ignored. Price may be due to claim that it's a Turbo S!

POST 8Original post

Unfortunately 'Cat D' stigmatises a car for the rest of its life, and that has to be reflected in the pricing.

POST 9Original post

By the way, it can't be a Turbo S as that didn't come out until 2005.

POST 10Original post

I had to read it 3 times to notice the little 'Category D' header. Must be a new feature, as sellers used to have to list it in the description.

POST 11Original post

Same for me Richard, doesn't appear to be fair to potential buyers if that is all a seller has to show.

POST 12Original post

I know it is a contradiction but whilst I'd avoid a Cat D my 944s2 was deemed a cat D with repairable bumper & wing damage Bought it back then sold it on dirt cheap 25% of insurance settlement to be repaired with second hand parts. And as far as I can see is still on the road 6+ years later If you can find what damage was if car is priced accordingly and you can accept you will never get book value........

POST 13Original post

you are quite correct in fact some in 2004 then the rest in 2005 I suspect it is a badly worded advert as you can get a tiptronic S ( i believe and I am sure Richard will correct me )and people often assume the s means it is a turbo s but the car doesnt have it on the boot lid, they have got a picture of a genuine S on their website so assume they do indeed know the difference
