FYI - 2018 allocations are unleashed by PCNA for June builds!
Very nice looking car! Congrats! What prompted you to switch to the
911
?
I've been thinking I may go
911
for my next car too because I don't want a 4 cylinder engine. But I don't really want to spend
911
money, so I'm hanging on to my 981 for now.
Thanks! After 18 months on the configurator, I think I have it about right (for me). I'm not switching to a
911
from my Boxster. I am keeping my 981 and intend to be buried in it. I like it that much.
I needed to replace my
Lexus
commuter car and the C4 fits the bill for me. Both are fantastic cars. The Boxster is ruined for me with the 4 cylinder turbos. I just can't get into that car for that kind of money. No way.
Even better! My Cayman is my commuter car since it never snows here. It is my only car since I sold my old RX-8 a couple months ago. (Although right now I'm driving a rental Ford Fusion since someone backed into my Cayman in a parking lot... sadness)
I hope you share some pictures and a trip report once you get to pick up your
911
!
I will! I intend to post daily both on P-9, ******** and on my facebook page during and after the trip. I am doing something a little unusual for my European Delivery this time - a group delivery. Basically a normal European Delivery on steroids. So far I know it will include (in addition to the lap time, hotel stay etc) a walking tour of Leipzig the day before and dinner with the group at Porsche including with some Porsche employees. I recall that 16 cars will be delivered as a group. I have not received the written details yet. 18 days at about 3000 miles of driving through 13 countries. Pick up on July 6th. Can't wait.
Congrats
Fantastic build Subshooter! I'm coming from a 2.7 981 Croc! Order placed early Jan 2017 and should arrive to Houston any day now.
Manual base
Carrera
, GT Silver, 19 inch wheels, sport design mirrors, 18 way seats,
Alcantara
steering wheel gear lever and elbow rest,
LED headlights
,
Sport Chrono
and sport
exhaust
tips (not
PSE
). I'll be sad to see the Cayman go truth be told but counting the days until the new one is in!
Thanks. You have a fantastic build too! I almost got that color! It used to be a special color 2 years ago for about $3500 bucks.
Congrats. I have to admit, I am very envious. Very very nice. Enjoy in good health. One question. If this going to be your commuter, do you think you would be better off the standard 19 inch wheels? I know they don't look as nice but a little more sidewall and slightly narrower width should provide for a less noisy and more compliant ride. Also you don't care for the thigh extenders with the 14 -way or 18-way seats? That gets you the premium package with the heated seats for 620 bucks which adds auto dimming mirrors and heated seats as well. Just curious.
Fair question. I thought about this option but decided against it. I will be the only driver so I would never adjust the seats. My commutes are 32 miles one way so no super long drives. My 981 2-way seats are very comfortable with no issue. I also don't want any unnecessary extra weight with all the motors. I also don't care about resale value with a 911 without the 14-ways. So I landed on the 4-ways.
Ask me how I fee after 3000 miles of driving on my European Delivery trip.
Awesome build. Sounds like it will be a memorable ED. Is the whole group doing the extended post-delivery drive?
Not unless they want to drive to Romania. lol. I met a guy on ******** that is also doing the group delivery on the same day. He is getting a PTS Targa4GTS..... wow! Here is where we are headed.....
That looks like an awesome drive in Europe. Prague and Vienna are not made for cars, but will be awesome in summer. I'd change the route slightly to get into dolomites and passes on the north border of Italy, instead of hugging the sea near Venice.
Did that with my last European Delivery in 2013. Stelvio, Fluela, Umbrail, Furka. It was awesome. Click on that video in my signature block.
Guys, what discount are you getting on ordered cars? Of course you don't have to answer.
Seems to vary a lot based on the source. edmunds is close to MSRP whereas KBB is suggesting something approaching 7-8%.
I know some models are more in demand but what about the Base
Carrera
or
Carrera
4?
6% give or take.
Any day now!
Congrats! Normally, I would say get the 'S' model but for the 991.2, it's not necessary. The 991.2 is a great car, you'll love it. ED is fun, I picked up a Mercedes doing ED many years ago, very memorable experience.
I got 5% off my ordered C4. Of course, ED cost the dealership another $3,000. I am really happy with the pricing. Same deal I got from the same SA on my 981.
Hey, I may join you guys if I am lucky. I asked my SA to put in an order and he is willing to do so. I may or may not get it, but if I do, I will be exchanging my 13 BS for it. I specified that I need a 5% discount off MSRP and a reasonable value for my low mileage, 18k, 13 BS. I would be willing to accept 40k for it on a 70k car. I just don't enjoy driving my Boxster with the top up and top down days are fun but too few. Besides, want to experience the new
911
. So, wish my luck to get an allocation. AWD will help me drive the car much more and a big glass roof will help as well from convertible withdrawal. If it doesn't happen, so be it. At least I tried.
Good luck, Anand.
Subshooter, it'll be interesting to hear how this ED stacks up against the last one.
I will post a lot....probably mostly when I get back. It is already starting to look better....actually it looks totally fantastic.

Very nice. And I see it is a MT. Even better.
I spoke to my SA. Porsche makes/sells very, very few awd base
911s
. He told me there are 5 in the country all PDKs but there were more than 200 of the 4s version.
So who knows when putting in an order, whether Porsche will deign to give the dealer an allocation for the car I want.
Anyway, looks like a long waiting game.
Wait and order one or go find a Dealer with an allocation.
You have the Boxster for the summer.
I don't know if Dealers can trade allocations but I would go to your Dealer, check book in hand and explain what you want, your time frame and your options. Phone contacts don't register as well as in person/checkbook.
"Money talks,............."
BTW I have no sunroof, since a winter daily driver, I wanted the car as tight as possible.
It's cocoon on the highway and in the city.-Richard
I really want an allocation because I am satisfied with what the dealer is willing to offer for my 13 BS. Quite reasonable but I am not a negotiator.
I have a nice C4 build for about 120k MSRP but at this point a fantasy because no allocation. Hope to have one in a couple of months.
Am thinking of asking for a 6% discount if that is reasonable. I was told I will get my car, only a matter of waiting a few months.
Dealers trade allocations all the time. Perhaps you can enable the exchange and do the search for your dealer. I'd call other dealerships in the area and ask if they have a C4 allocation and then go back to your dealer (or buy the car from whichever dealer has a C4 allocation). You shouldn't have to do this but sometime you have to do the leg work for something that you really want.
My SA is good. He owns three Porsches including a BGTS. I don't think he is giving me bullshit about allocations. Two other local dealers didn't even bother to respond. They know I bought a car from them and I had all my service done from them including extra like SE etc. He knows I want the C4 and I think he will make it work. He has promised me he will get me my car. It could be 2 weeks or 2 months or 4 months to get an allocation. Even the trade is very fair. So it is just a waiting game. Unfortunately, as much as I love my Boxster, it just doesn't suit my driving needs and the
911
C4 does.
I thought I would share this gem of a tidbit that I got off another forum. This chart explains the response of each of the driving modes for the 991.2 including the individual mode and the sport response button (
PDK
only). Pretty cool. Note that the backfire is only available in sport mode and not sport +. Bunch of other interesting insights on the chart also.
The backfiring sound is a bit too much for my taste. I am on the fence wrt the SE. Couple of things I noticed were the comfiness of the 18-way seats compared to the 14-way and how much nicer the interior looked with the two tone leather compared to the standard interior. Also the cabin felt a lot roomier than my Boxster. It is a gorgeous car.
I like the backfiring stuff.....because I am an immature kid sometimes. lol.
My 981 has the full leather w/deviated stitching. It just looks fantastic. Did the same with my C4 (Bordeux/black). I wouldn't do it any other way.
I only got the 4 way electric seats in the C4 (base seats in my 981 too) It works for me.....but then again, I spent 20 years in the submarine force so I'm not used to or need some of these creature comforts . The seats work for me.
I agree it does seem roomier. I think the interior is identical to the 981 from the front seats forward. The back seats make the whole car seem roomier.
The full leather makes a big difference to the interior ambience and I regret not getting it in my Boxster. The standard interior is functional but very plain and the plastics are not of very high quality. You did the smart thing with your Boxster.
The engine is further away from the driver so the
911
does not feel as raw and nosiy like my Boxster. SE is a mixed bag for me. I had it installed in my Boxster and I love it in normal mode with sport off. It has a deep satisfying growl and with a lot texture to the sound.
Yeah seats. I need decent thigh support because of long legs and too many hours in a car over too many years. Just for that feature I like the power seats. I thought the 18-ways were also broader up on top than the 14-ways. I felt very comfortable in them. Great for long drives.
Thanks for checking it out and your input. I did check the sport tex seats in a Targa they had in the showroom. I did not like the texture of the fabric. Felt a little rough and that it would not last. Plus no ventilated seats. I have seen some of Nick's videos and he seems to like the sport Tex in chalk.
I saw a night blue 4s in the showroom with the 18-way blue and chalk interior and it looked fantastic. Beautiful contrast. It also had the carbon fiber interior and that didn't do it for me. The car was loaded with ceramic brakes, the fancier sound system etc. and
PDK
with yellow-faced gauges and yellow seat belts. That didn't go well with the chalk interior. Crazily optioned.
The only reason I am thinking of the black logo is to go for a low key look. I have a red Boxster with black wheels now and it attracts too much attention and my wife hates that. I could get the car de-badged but thought a black logo on a dark color is unobtrusive. So color coordinated the SE tail pipes in black too. I also like the graphite blue which is not so dark and the black contrast may look better. I have lane change assist in my Volvo but I never rely on it. Use mirrors set wide to prevent blind spots but the
911 coupe
has so much better visibility than my Boxster with the top up.
BTW, is 6% too much to ask for? I will be trading in my pristine BS and they will make money on that as well. I hope not.
I got LCA in my C4. I've never had any experience with it before. My father-in-law has it in his Macan and he loves it.
I think 6% is a fantastic deal on an ordered car. You may be able to manage it with a second purchase from the same dealer. As you have figured out, the C4 is rare which erodes some of your negotiating power.
