Reported cause
The conclusion I took from it was the old chestnut.
Leading evidence: 'chestnut' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'chestnut' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use 4 turbos' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
The Veyron uses 4 turbos to overcome the lag & provide smoother boost.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys,
Just a quick note to let you know that my car is featured in a Supercharged/Turbo charged article in Total 911 Magazine.
Nice read, and i know the subject comes up from time to time.
Hope you guys enjoy it.
Regards
Vinny
Hey mate I read that the other day :thumb:
Quite a good article I thought, but the conclusion was a bit weird - seemed to be saying they wouldn't supercharge a 996, but they wouldn't bother with a 996 Turbo either :eh!:
Hey Roro,
I know what you mean, it was an opinion of someone else that was asked, not the author, someone who is not a fan of turbo's of any kind.
Umm, i guess he was a good person to contribute :dont know:
Total 911 have a great team though, really top class.

I have done some work with Total 911 as well, they do seem like a decent bunch. My article on brakes and intercoolers will be finished when the weather warms up a bit. I enjoyed the supercharger article, nice to have a magazine which doesn't just suck up to the latest greatest models and explores some more diverse interests.

I found the article very interesting. The conclusion I took from it was the old chestnut. Cost! It seems like a really great modification in itself but the cost brings you into turbo territory and with a turbo, you get more than just a faster engine. So it becomes a redundant choice unless you really feel your car is a lifer and nothing else will tempt you.
Obvious answer is to go for a turbo but not if you have spent time, money and effort getting your n/a 996 completely sorted and if the engine is in good order the I think it's a no brainer to add a supercharger or single turbo.....I quite fancy the tpc racing kit.
Great article but conclusion was pathetic!
How would a single turbo work?Come to think of it how does a supercharger work with that engine setup. Space is at such a premium in these engine bays which is why i guess the turbo went for the twin route rather than 1 big one.
It was a good article. The big thing is the difference in the delivery of the power. They stated that with a supercharger the power is low down, but the turbo suffers from lag and is only really suited to high gear, long motorway/continental blasting or driving everywhere as if your arse was on fire. I'm not a fan of turbo charged petrol cars for the reason of lag and the all or nothing delivery. The supercharger is the route I'd go if I wanted more go from my 4S. Nice one for having it done by the way, be keen to see how it runs long term for you. :thumb:
Hi guys,
The car runs great, there is good performance throughout the range but obviously very obvious low down, low down power is really something else, on higher speeds that whine is lovely and still pulls like a train.
I do agree, spending money for such a conversion is not an obvious choice, but like he says in Risky Business "sometimes you got to say, what the f£&@"

My take away from the article was that super charging plus point is it gives low rev "boost" (although I don't think the TT is that laggy but I guess driving back to back might make it more obvious) and that for the cost of super charging a m96 engine (which some consider a touch fragile :?: ) you might as well pay similar money and have a bullet proof turbo.
All the factory Turbo cars prior to the 993 were single turbo. The reason they changed to twin turbo was mainly one of driveability & massive improvements in turbo technology; as anyone who has wrestled with a 930 turbo will tell you, the boost tends to come in with a bang & usually at the wrong time (eg. mid-corner).
