Second newbie question. Again looking at 4S... reasonable daily driver in snow with great snow tires? Recently owned Audi RS5 and S7, both sit low, and had no issues. If it’s really not doable I’ll skip the 4 and just get the S, but would prefer just one car
Thanks
Andrew
Hi, I have a 991.2 4s - a cabriolet which I don’t use much except weekends, I had it on winter tyres this year and it was great except the ground clearance is not alot, I have front lift and use for almost all speed humps etc. My neighbours looked a little shocked when I took it out in the snow probably as they weren’t aware it’s 4wd. On the road it felt less sure footed than my previous rs6 avant 2017 still ok but I wouldn’t want to be taking that much care everyday!

I'm not sure what kind of 4WD 911 uses, but you have to understand that most AWD systems don't really work all the time, and only kick in when car is stuck or can't get moving. I think good winter tires and low weight is far more important for driving in a snow, than those fake AWD systems.
I don't think that Porsche uses slip and grip. I think their AWD is all four wheels all of the time, with the amount sent to each axle varying on conditions.
With the rear engine, a 911 has to be good in snow, even with RWD. The Cayman is great in snow.
Ever drive a VW bug in the snow with snows on? Same idea. More power.
Correct. No Slip & Grip. 911 AWD is rear biased (an oddity) full time AWD. Not sure of the split but maybe 20/80 or something like that until the fronts need power.
Thank you everyone! some peace and reassurance is had!
To date, Audi has NEVER disappointed with a great set of snows... NOKIAN has been my latest treat.. .never let me down
Check it out, but I believe that the 4S has even less ground clearance than your Audi's. If I'm right then I would not think they would be the best choice for snow. Good Luck.
Well, there is snow and there is snow. 4S+good winter tires will be ok most of the time, except snow storms. I use to drive pretty low 350z year around for 5 years, and sometimes in Michigan it means I had to plow through pretty deep snow to get home. Well, snow/ice covers the bumper and creates protective layer, so it doesn't do as much damage as one would think. So you just keep plowing slowly until you get home
Great point... clearance certainly an issue with big snows... I’ll see how it goes !
My 981 Cayman was great in the snow with winter tires.
