Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey everyone new guy here......thanks for having me! So I have a question about tappets in the housing (996-104-042-05) On the intake tappets (99610525525) I can slightly push 4 of the down moving about 1/8” and 2 I can’t push down at all. So basically I’m trying to figure out which are bad and which are good. As for the exhaust tappets (99610504172) none of them will push down, so are they good or bad...... I’m baffled! Thanks so much for your time.

POST 2Original post

On oil fed tappets, if you can push them down at all, then the check valve are bad.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah that’s what I figured....thanks. I wonder if you can rebuild them

Yes, you can rebuild them, but it is a chore. What are the costs of new ones?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheapest I found was 137.00 a piece........I figured out how to rebuild them it is a chore but if you take your time you can do it..

POST 6Original post

Good, post some pictures and the instruction for all to follow next time. That is a $3200 saving.

Proper way to test them is submerge in clean oil at about 200 degrees. You will see them purge debris as you pump the plunger. Those that cannot be pumped are excessively clogged & should be replaced.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I will post some pics .....the newer intake tappet has a clip holding the bottom washer on..... but the older tappets (99610525520) are what I rebuilt......
