Opening the rear trunk/hatch will reset the meter and require the car be driven and stopped on a flat surface to measure.

i just did the oil change three days ago for my 2014 911 and this message still comes up at the indy shop. they told me it will go away after one week.so should i bring back to indy shop to drain out the oil a little bit or just drive as normal to see the message disappear ? the oil level is showing yellow at the instrument cluster. thanks for the reply

I doubt that any damage will occur, but I nevertheless would take the car back immediately to have the extra oil drained. Their response to you is disappointing. If they make a mistake, they should immediately correct it.

My indy shop always refills with PIWIS connected, so the fill level is always perfect.

In my experience, barring leaks or burning oil, the oil level goes up a bit as the oil shears. At least twice I have filled my 14 Cayman to the top block and one to two weeks later I received the 'too much oil' warning. I guess this could also be caused by water getting in the oil (condensation or coolant leak into the oil - water turns lthe oil light brown, so it is obvious). The oil measurement on the 981 is based on sensor that takes into account the oil temperature. Opening the rear trunk/hatch will reset the meter and require the car be driven and stopped on a flat surface to measure. A couple weeks ago at Mid-Ohio track, I received the 'too much oil' warning after starting the car on a mild incline. When parked on a flat surface, the warning went away. V6
