Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have just bought a 911 turbo s and find the engine not particularly smooth in 1st and 2nd gear below 3000rpm. The engine doesn't seem to respond linerly to throttle control, at some revs little response, then lots at a few more revs. After a long run on the motorway using some boost, it seemed to clear. Maybe it's just a characteristic of the engine (having the X50 pack may be something to do with it)? Any comments? Also, after reading some of the posts what do tt and rms refer to?

POST 2Original post

IIRC you may need to check the point that the Turbo kicks in, as below that point the engine may feel sluggish

POST 3Original post

   Someything is amiss as mine is smooth at low revs and is certainly not sluggish pre the turbo's kicking in. Did you buy the car privately or from a dealer? As for tt and RMS. TT stands for twin turbo and you will find that most people when refering to a 996 Turbo will use 996tt. RMS stands for Rear Main Seal. It is situated where the gearbox joins the engine and is prone to failure. It is not a catastrophic failure and many people will live with their leaky RMS til they need a new clutch. It is covered under the OPC Warranty ut should you have to pay yourself I believe it is around the £800 area. The good news for you is that the 996tt and the GT2/3 are derived from the old GT1 engine and are much less likely to deelop RMS problems.
