Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know a few of you here had problems with your roofs on the cabs, leaking etc. I quite fancy a cab myself to be able to hear the PSE with the top down in the summer, but wondering if it will be worth if they are typically prone to faults and its just likely to give me problems? What are the experiences of cab owners here? Thanks in advance JayK

POST 2Original post

Erm... I didn't think it's a problem on 996s... who did you hear has had problems with their roofs? Maybe one or two through faults when things jammed during opening/closure, but the 996 cab generally has a good rep in terms of roof reliability. Hairdresser issues, now that is a different story

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Off the Top of my head, think TimS mentioned it? http://911ukforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=14190 Cant remember if it was here but also heard of one or two more, but as you say, they could be the exception Never had a cab before

POST 4Original post

I think they are the exception - the 996 cab has a fairly sophisticated soft top design... perhaps the early editions were more prone (I'm guessing here) but I think the later cabs had the 30mph feature... hopefully cab users can chime in here!

POST 5Original post

Hi, had my 996 cab for going on 4 years (had a 993 targa previously). I haven't had any issues with the car, it has behaved impeccably. I stick the hard top on for the worst months of the year otherwise the roof comes down as often as I can. My 3 year old daughter loves it, in particular the fabulous roar of the flat 6. I don't have the PSE, though am sorely tempted... let me know if you need any more info!

POST 6Original post

ignore the hairdresser comments Jay K, the tin top owners on here just wish they could look as good as us  can't say i've had any issues with my cab, roof works faultlessly every time. Had a minor issue on one of the window seals not being plumb flush but that was cured with some zymol seal replenisher which worked wonders and now its all tight and water free. for the few days of sun we've had this year the cab is a great place to be with the roof down and its a real head turner too. If you're looking for something to lap the ring in under 8 minutes then the cab's not the car for you but for everyday fun and laughter its a great car. Now where did i leave my curling tongs....

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Haha. Thanks everyone for the input. I'm not too bothered about the car being that much faster around the ring etc. THe other main box it ticks as well is that it will keep the misus happy. She doesnt care what my next car is, so long as its a convertible, and shiny she says lol Cheers JayK

POST 8Original post

mine was the same JayK. It was a joint purchase so in some respects a compromise as i really wanted a coupé. That notwithstanding i'm glad we got the cab and i've already got permission for the next car to be a coupé (and then i can start the GT3 vs Turbo debate on here all over again  )

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well the answer to that ones obvious isnt it

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I said that without moving my lips (or fingers)

POST 12Original post

Loved my cab - great cars - I didn't really have any problems with mine. Mine was a 2001 car.

POST 13Original post

on my second cab after 2 986 boxsters, both 911s have been later glass window models and both have been faultless. Keeping the fabric clean (vacumed and decent soft top cleaning & reproofing products) keeping all the seals supple avoids any problems. I have fitted both cars with Smart top roof control modules which let you lower and raise upto 30 mph with one touch of the button (more useful than you can imagine ) and lets you roll up the rear quarters when the roof is down which they don`t as standard. Great cars, ignore the `Tresome` jibes, thats just folks who are a little uneasy in their hetrosexuallity

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have never had a cab before, but by the sounds of it here looks like its a good bet. If only I had one today, got the day off, sun is shining................care to lend me a cab for the day anyone?

POST 15Original post

I've had my 2004 Cab for almost 18 months now and love it - the extra storage spaces for curling tongs, hairdryers and clippers are fantastic  Seriously though, mine has been faultless other than it decided not to go down with the key once or twice - quick reset by the OPC (for free) at service and all is well - currently in Northern Ireland and guess the 911's are rather rare given the looks I keep getting - well either that or they're staring at the number plate (a bit dodgy for N Ireland) or they are wanting to book an appointment  Roof has been down all week due to the (unseasonably) fantastic weather!
