Hi guys, anyone else have signed up for the Dec 9-12 102 class? I just signed up and there are still 8 seats left so if you've been considering it, it's a good chance to get in for the last class in 2015. http://www.flat6innovations.com/inde...rebuild-school I look forward to the class and hope to meet some of you RL'ers there in person!

POST 10Original post

Is the 101 course level a prerequisite to the level 102?

POST 11Original post

Just read the course detail. Yes the 101 is required. I'm out.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yea the 101 is mandatory but it's an online webinar that's 4hrs per day for two days. The classes work out to be about $50/hr. Also, there are 3 instructors for 12 students in the 102 class so I don't think the price is unreasonable. The hotel and flights do add overheads though.

POST 13Original post

Guys, We supply 100% of all tools, components and engines. I leaned 10 years ago that I couldn't allow anyone to bring their own engine, or parts, as it causes a huge conflict with other (jealous) attendees. Everyone always wants to bring their own engine, and if they did this class would cost 20,000 per attendee, as their is no free lunch. 101 online classes are required as a pre-requisite to the 102 classes. The 101 class for this December enthusiast only class will be held in November. All the other details of the Engine Rebuild Classes are found here: http://www.flat6innovations.com/inde...rebuild-school I have a new training site ready to open next week, that allows for online sign up, and etc. The engines that are built are always used for our R&D programs, and I won't make any exceptions, under any circumstance. These engines do run after the class, and this isn't a normal classroom setting, where what you learn isn't practically applied. This enthusiast class is limited to 12 attendees, so we can go over more material and so each person has more time with wrenches in their hands than what occurs in a "pro" level class. The content is the same between both pro and enthusiast classes, but we just take more time on each process with the enthusiast class; this is made possible by having fewer attendees. A new site and details will be released in a few days. Until then, email [email removed] for details In short, we spend 4 hours per day in a class room, and the rest of the time in the shop. The first day we tear an engine down, and the rest of the time is spent assembling. We spend a ton of time on piston installation, and cam timing, along with the proper use of special tools. M96 102 Class- January 2015 Tony Callas and I just finished a class this past weekend, it was our Porsche Engine Management & Diagnostics class. Here are some photos from that class: The added media room allows two instructors to share information on separate topics at the same time, making for smaller groups

Only if requested. BTW_ Peter_S03 above made a totally out of line comment. I warranted his work even though I shouldn't have, and I even paid shipping both ways. He was happy for 3 years and then posted this distasteful response. Nothing cost him anything, I threw away all my invoices. There's one in every crowd. Where I messed up was agreeing to repair his heads without having the whole car. I haven' accepted a single machine shop job since then, either.

What's up with the other manufacturers logos? I can see VW and maybe Ferrari since both have had boxer motors at one point, but BMW's "M Power" using inline motors.... hmmmm.... The first thing that would come to mind if I walked into that room...

I was wondering what he meant by his statement. Thanks for sharing the other side of the story. BTW, I was contemplating on attending one of the sessions until I saw a Cayenne in some of your pics. Boo... j/k

POST 18Original post

I develop engines for BMW applications as well. I also have Cayenne classes, and that particular Cayenne is mine. It was used to demonstrate how to check cam timing deviations using an oscilloscope during the diagnostics portion of my Engine Management Class. Cayenne engines have an issue with the vane cell adjuster bolt loosening, creating issues, and this method is the best for identifying these issues. We work with any Porsche engine that has a problem, same goes for BMW and even Mercedes/ AMG. It all started with Porsche, but it has no end.

Yep, I won't touch ANYTHING machine wise anymore. I went through Peter's folder and this all dates back to 2012. I also found an agreement between he and I that explicitly agrees that this was settled. It was attached to a 12,000 dollar invoice that I paid for, including 1200.00 of that going to the shop that screwed the engine up the first time, on top of his shipping to and from. All of this for work that never carried any warranty in the first place, and even after we documented all of these disasters: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...4914693&type=3 I have a call into him now, and I am awaiting a response about why he felt he needed to bring this up, after it cost him NOTHING to have the issues taken care of. I'll be surprised if he calls me back. If he disagrees with my posting, I'll post a 6 page agreement signed by him that states the exact occurrence. BUT this has nothing to do with training; though, should teach a class about how to deal with customers that can't be pleased.

Yep, some people pay attention, others don't.. That pic was taken just after a break, so... The debacle with Peter's engine was amazing, I have even more photos that I could post. It appears he forgot he signed an agreement and bashing Raby on an International forum would result in being sued. I am curious to why he didn't call out the original German shop who screwed up his engine, but thought it necessary to talk trash about the one who helped him? Jake, there are some of us that really appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

POST 35Original post

Quotes source post: 12530872

It was a situation where a pair of heads were shipped to us, and a crack was found, and repaired. Upon reassembly by the German shop, coolant leaked out of the exhaust flange/ EGR ports. Long story short I took the entire vehicle under my wing, pulled the heads and found another crack deep inside the head. This area of a 3 chain head had never been identified as a possible failure point, so we identified another form of failure and updated the processes to include pressure testing of the EGR region of the head. To date we haven't ever seen this crack occur again, but we still test every head for it, no matter what. We took care of the problem, and the owner executed an agreement stating that he was pleased with the actions and how we handled the issues. All issues were documented and the entire scenario was spelled out chronologically. That was dated February 13, 2013. Over 2 years later he made his remarks here. I suppose that he finally realized that he had nothing to complain about, because his engine, and even the car were better than they were before he carried them to the local German repair shop. It cost him nothing to have any of the work done, to include shipping of the car, and I turned it around in 2.5 weeks time, putting it ahead of every scheduled engine in the facility. I even offered to pay him for a rental car. I believe in being accountable, and responsible. I learned my lesson from that and it was the first issue I had with an M96 engine, and was also the last. Any time I have any issue, no matter how slight, we are able to identify and address weaknesses in the communication and administration portions of the program, and make changes. Because I go so far over the top to ensure we don't have issues, it may appear that its hard to do business with us; when in reality these steps ensure that business is simple, and that there will be no miscommunications or misunderstandings. Situations like this increase the cost of engines, and ultimately lead me to suspend services, like I did with cylinder heads following this debacle. Jud and Kaley make up my admin team, it takes nearly 90 steps to follow a checklist to process a vehicle for its new engine, and the two of them are tasked with doing this for 30 engines that are underway at all times. These vehicles could be local, or coming from across the country, or even from abroad. The owners could be American, or may not speak a single word of english, but, in the end it all comes together. Today there's not enough money in the bank for me to agree to repair cylinder heads without having the entire car, and Peter_S03 is responsible for that solely. I once had a customer who was a practicing attorney tell me "Raby, if everyone did business like you, and ensured that issues could not, and would not happen, there would be no need for lawyers". Since we started the M96/ M97 program we've dealt with over 1200 purchasers. By the law of averages I should have at least 120 people out there that weren't pleased, but that hasn't happened. I am so damn lucky that I should go buy a lottery ticket.

POST 36Original post

"I am so damn lucky that I should go buy a lottery ticket." It clearly has nothing to do with luck Jake - you've "done your homework" and addressed problems as they arose. While it's unfortunate that you're in the minority when it comes to car repairs, we're the lucky ones to have someone such as yourself to be looking out for our special machines.

POST 37Original post

Quotes source post: 12531269

I'm lucky because I've been able to sniff out the problematic people up front and haven't dealt with anyone that was impossible to please. One day my luck will end, and it'll likely **** me off so bad that I'll just close the doors and retire early after finishing the backlog. I wish I could only deal with machines.

If Rennlist displays a post that is proven to be both untrue and misleading, I suggest the Moderator should delete the offensive Post. To support both the Moderator and the innocent victim other Posters can flag the offending post for the Moderators attention by clicking on the triangle icon at the lower left of each Post. If dishonest comments are allowed to remain in threads like this it simply encourages more of it and ultimately the credibility of Rennlist is undermined. Just a suggestion. The negative side of forums is the part that makes it too easy for people to bash someone who has done their best. Sometimes people simply lie. A few years ago, before I had ever sold my first performance 9a1 engine, some guy on a forum was bragging about how he bought his from me, and it was so great. That was impossible, because I had yet to sell a single one! Yes, I called him out on it. People making one sided stories and false accusations is what makes us have to keep every email, take hundreds of photos, serialize everything, and all the other non sense that we shouldn't have to do. We have to gain authorization for every step of a build and get that in writing. While this is doing business, we have to stop at more points than necessary, simply so we can't ever be accused of anything. Dealing with the modern human, pretty much pisses me off. Most are great, but the one out of every 300 or so ruins it for everyone else, and for me.

Yeah, I spent 20 years in the Industrial Maintenance field as a tech and supervisor. Mechanical and Electrical systems are going to fail, it is just a matter of when and how catastrophic. Granted solid preventative maintenance can delay the failure for a long time but eventually parts wear out. The parted I hated the most was dealing with the machine operators who didn't really care about their jobs. At a pharmaceutical company which made valves for anesthesia use, the operators would purposely damage the machine so they didn't have to work and heaven forbid if you called them out on the fact. One of my techs and I decided to try an experiment, we adjusted the valve assembly machine at end of shift on a Friday, came in on Saturday and operated the machine with 10 total stoppages due to a o-ring getting miss fed. we assembled 30,000 valves in an 8 hour run. That number was 4 times more than the operators were getting and no mechanical or electrical failures with the exception of the miss feeds which is acceptable. I actually got my butt chewed by the general manager as I made the operators look incompetent. The last company I worked for before I made the exit from manufacturing was a Korean owned company who molded parts for Ford and Chevy. They were on probation for their lack of PM paper work to maintain their QS9000 rating. When I came to work, I rewrote their complete preventative maintenance program because they didn't have the manpower to do the things they said they were doing on a daily, weekly and monthly program. There was about 4 months of PM paperwork they didn't have so to make a long story short when it came time for UL to come in to do the audit, the owners wanted me to forge the PM documentation, I told them no and they fired me and forged the documents themselves. They ended up losing their QS9000 rating which cost them their business with Ford and Chevy over doing it my way which would have had them on probation for 6 months but still in business.

The Knowledge Gruppe informed me that all the 2016 classes are now online for registration. This includes all online, and Hands- On classes. Please do not PM me about class dates, or prices/ etc. Send all that info through the email address on www.theknowledgegruppe.com for quick replies. I know that email address won't be monitored after tomorrow, until January 4 when things get back to normal for everyone. Feel free to sign up online, any time. Two hands on classes have booked up today, and it looks like all the classes are at least 50% filled so far, for all of 2016.
