Next we will be fined for talking to passengers, listening to the radio, and taking your hand off the wheel to change gear!

On the other hand there are people who I would never get in a car with that don't even use a mobile phone!

"Banning the use of phones is a good thing because it's an obvious distraction from the road.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Very interesting including the comments, I have to agree personally with the sentiment of this guy.
"Banning the use of phones is a good thing because it's an obvious distraction from the road.
But how can you ban things like Sat-Nav? Firstly, they are standard fitment in a lot of cars these days and secondly, if they are a distraction, so is the radio, the heater controls, the window switches etc.

Where is it all gonna end. I remember driving with a bloody map on my knee and zooming across 2 lanes because I'd missed my turning. Surely Sat Nav is a must nowadays.

I think this is a slight step in the right direction... Mobile phones don't necessarily cause accidents, but dangerous driving does. IMO the cause of the dangerous driving is irrelevant - it is the symptoms that should be punished. It's a classic case of making a law that is easy to enforce, rather than one that solves the problem.
I am the World's worst passenger, but there are a number of drivers I know that I would happily sit alongside whilst they chat away on their phones - because I know they are concentrating on the road as a priority and will drop the phone at an instant if necessary. On the other hand there are people who I would never get in a car with that don't even use a mobile phone!

As long as it is legal to smoke while driving, I think any rules on mobile phones, eating, sat nav, or anything else on the move are a complete farce  I am not anti-smoking BTW (if you want to kill yourself that's up to you), but taking a mind altering drug (albeit a very mild one) while in charge of a tonne and a half of killing machine is quite unbelievable to me... I nearly killed myself and a few others once when smoking and driving, and know first hand just how lethal that can be
Rant over.... Happy New Year everyone!
