Hi there:
Please excuse this somewhat duplicate posting to other threads, but, I wanted to get current feedback on the following:
I'm tracking a 2000 C4 Cab this coming season and will be running RE71Rs.
My question is the following:
What pressures should I run on:
The Street: Cold Pressures: Front: Rear:
The Track:
Dry Track: Cold Pressures: Front: Rear:
Wet Track: Cold Pressures: Front: Rear:
What is the ideal temperature .. range the tire should be run at?
I will be using my tire pyrometer to adjust pressures after each run group, it is the cold pressures I'm really lost with right now.
Any insights you can provide would be greatly appreciated, including good sources for this type of information.
Hello to fellow Canadian!
You've made a good choice of tires. I used RE71Rs for most of last season (my 1st) and I was very happy with them.
I personally ran them at 32 PSI cold on the street front and rear. On the track they would easily go up to 40 PSI hot. I tried to keep them at about 35 front 37 rear, based on other drivers' recommendations. The outside edges got worn out pretty quickly. Some people suggest running them at even higher pressures to help that. I've gotten adjustable LCAs during the off-season, and now have -2.5 camber all around, so looking forward to the tires lasting longer and better handling as well.
You will find more info on these tires under "987 Cayman and Boxster Competition" forum.
One more important thing to consider: Older Porsches have issues with oil starvation, which you don't experience under normal driving, but on the track with R compound rubber like RE71R causing higher G-forces on the engine, it may become a problem. I know that 987 Caymans have these issues and there are solutions for them, I am not familiar with 996 911s though.
Hope to see you on the track this summer!
Hey There:
Thanks for the response, and the insights, much appreciated.
I have put on a deep sump, so hopefully will not have any oil starvation issues
I will check out the "987 Cayman and Boxster Competition" forum for additional input.
Just curious, what pressures do you run on the street...going back and forth to the track?
And...for sure see you at the track, I'm registered for June, July, August, September ... car #382
Thanks again, have a great....weekend (still waiting for spring to arrive...and try out the new rubber..)
For regular street driving , I would just go with whatever pressure is recommended for your 911 (should be marked on on the door sill sticker).
I am registered for those dates with PCA as well, car #136. Maybe I can try out your pyrometer, as I've never used one before!
Thanks for the follow up response, others also align with using factory settings for the street.
For sure you can give the pyrometer a try, as this is my first season to use it, getting input from others would be great....
