I guess the price is okay, but check CarGurus for the best deals nationwide or at least within a few hundred miles of you.

Suggestion
If I was stuck on getting a turbo, I'd look at a new or slightly used 991.2, the base model.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

well my wife and I have decided to trade in the boxster and get another*cough*faster*cough* Porsche. I was thinking the 911 turbo s since the 911 has the seating in the back for our little guy.
I will be staying under $100k(lots on ebay) for this Porsche and would love some advice from owners of 911's or perhaps a different one you think might suit a little better... other than the panorama... such an ugly car. Is there perhaps one you would stay away from? years that have the most problems etc.
This isn't a "do my homework for me" thread, I am doing my home work
just want some thoughts from owners and not just specs I read on sites trying to sell them.
thanks
brian
thank you for the input.
from what I'm reading the turbo motors don't need the ims bearing repair. so i definitely want a turbo. I'm not a Porsche guru yet guys so bear with me if i make newbie comments. I've only owned my boxster for a couple years and don't know much about them yet other than... there a blast to drive
Turbo S is really an Autobahn car. Do you really need or even want 500+HP? And don't forget the maintenance expenses.
"Slower" 911's such as the Carerra S or GTS are still ridiculously powerful, and you could get a much newer car for the price of a used Turbo or Turbo S.
OP, my pick for under $100k budget for non track duty is a low miles 997.2 4s. Best form factor from Porsche to date. Use the saved $ on cosmetic mods like wheels and what not..
345hp or 385hp, says they have a shorter stroke design and response is improved over previous models. dont get me wrong guys, i'm not solely looking for hp. its just one of the considerations for me to guage... being a non guru
my big brother has a bmw35I .. I think that's the model. the newest z4 looking one. its 345hp and its pretty quick but i could keep him in my rear view mirror up till about 80mph with my c4 vette(it was built) the new porsche has to spank him lol he's been punching me in the gut since i was 4yrs old... time for pay backs lolol

I used to feel exactly the same way, until a few weeks ago when I had a Porsche Certified Instructor take my for a few laps around the track at the Porsche Atlanta Experience Center. Holy shite! What an awesome car. Ugly, but awesome!
I just went through the same decision process. Sold my '05 Boxster S which my wife and I both loved. Test drove several options. Was planning to get a 997.2 but the 991 just seemed so much more modern. After driving the 991 the 997 just seemed like going back in time. So now I have a 991 S cab in the garage. I like the idea of having one of the latest naturally aspirated engines. Unfortunately it's winter here so it will be stored for another couple of months.

If you're looking for 400 hp, look at the 991.1 CS, I've had both the 997.2 and the 991.1 and, although the 997 felt more raw, I prefer the 991.1 as a DD. the S has the 400 hp that you're looking for. I've had mine since 2013 and, even though I'm about to sell, it is a great car. You can probably pick up a low mileage 991.1S for the mid - sixties or so, based on options and year of model. The model switch took place in 2012 and both 997's and 991's can be 2012's. The turbos are incredibly fast but mostly wasted here in the US for street driving. Good luck with your search.
I recently went from a '12 Cayman S to a '13 CPO C2S. Way more power than I'll ever need and I like the feel of a NA engine. Much more car in every way than the Cayman. The original owner loaded it up with almost $30k in options, full two-tone leather, sport suspension and exhaust, etc. If I was stuck on getting a turbo, I'd look at a new or slightly used 991.2, the base model. Plenty of power and the newer tech is supposed to be really nice.
You want to buy a 100k 911 off ebay? You are a brave man. Hope you find the right one. Personally I wouldn't touch one unless it was a CPO. No I don't own one but I have looked at several, GTS models, and they are still above my price point. 997 and 991. Last I looked, Porsche of Boston had a 2014 911 4s manual for 90k but I think it is gone. The manuals don't even last a week on the lot.
A 991 Carrera S is easily found under $100K and I haven't found a road yet where I've said "yeah, this car needs more power".

I hate that Gray color and black wheels, great for rainy/cloudy days I suppose. I'm no fan of PDK with a non sport steering wheel either. The sport steering wheel has paddle shifters. I guess the price is okay, but check CarGurus for the best deals nationwide or at least within a few hundred miles of you. I think 2009 is when they upped the power of the Carrera S to 385...The 2017 base Carrera has 385 now in its turbo engine.

wow guys, tons of great advice.. i truly appreciate it. things to think about that did not cross my mind. I've been browsing all weekend at porsches.. 99.9% sure i want the manual, turbo and from what I'm seeing.. some mods already done to it are quite common as well which is a bonus. it will probably be a month or so before we pull the trigger but i will update this thread with the car i get.
This coming Friday I'm planning on going down to the dealer in Bloomfield hills (I think that's where its at) and talk to them about possible new one.. we'll see. not sure i want to pay sticker price for one but ya never know.
well long story short, I found a 1999 aero coupe that I really like so I kept the boxster and bought the 911. I have since stripped the car down and did a steel wide body and a .. few :naughty: other things. I just recently sold the boxster and now that my wife is sold on loving these cars she wants her own so we plan on getting her a caymen. this is a thread to my 911 build if anyone is interested in viewing.
