Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
I'd like to take the 996 back there, but the Miata was probably a better car for that piece of road.
Leading evidence: 'better car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'better car' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run right back up' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suggestion
Plenty of room at the bottom of the hill to turn around and run right back up.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I live about an hour from the Tail of the Dragon but haven't ever driven it. I know, I know. Anyway, this route (which someone has named The Rattler) is right out my front door (sort of) and convenient to I-40, Exit 24 in NC. It is lightly traveled and a lot of fun. There is gravel on the edges of the pavement sometimes because of the good ol' boys kicking it up with their trucks, and the occasional slow mover, but nicely scenic and varied, and the last leg towards Leicester is mostly down hill so you don't have to punish the engine to go pretty quickly.
Sorry, I can't figure out how to paste the actual map so here is the link.

Even as a Brit I think your missing something! But back to the picture even a HDave could go round what you can see at 15mph, its what you cannot see just behind the tail of the Porsche in the picture its a tight left...
Use the force KC the clues are there..

Yes, you usually find the yellow advisory signs
before
the corner, as this one is. There is a hard left hiding behind that guard rail. Sorry - the position of my car is confusing this a little I think.
I drove the Devils Whip, near Asheville, last summer in my Miata. LOT'S of fun!!!
One turn even mandated a downshift into first. I'd like to take the 996 back there, but the Miata was probably a better car for that piece of road. My wife got carsick!!!
The link's not working for me - just showing the general area. Is that Betsy's Gap Road? Looks like a fun ride. Nothing like that around here. You're lucky to live so close that you can go hit Betsy's Gap whenever you want.
Sorry you can't see the map. The link in my post opens right up for me and shows the loop in blue on the Google map.
Below is the info from the Rattler website, but I don't do it that way. About halfway to Hot Springs, starting at the Lake Junaluska end, I turn South in Trust on 63 which is a great twisty road running down into Leicester. In Leicester, I make a (poorly marked) right turn onto Newfound Rd. which is a country road back to I-40 at Exit 37.
If traveling I-40 in this area of NC, you could take Exit 24 and run this the way I do and end up at Exit 37 or you could take Exit 37 and run it the opposite direction and end up at Exit 24. An energetic workout and diversion from your Interstate travels

Man... Don't go giving away our best roads. Let all the tourists parade up and down the Tail following some Harley club from NJ, while we drive the Rattler, the Diamondback, and my favorite, NC 151 just south of Asheville.
North Carolina used to pride itself as the "Good Roads State," and it still is.
NC 151 just south of Asheville. Runs down from the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's a roller coaster, with top speeds of maybe 30 mph. Plenty of room at the bottom of the hill to turn around and run right back up.
finally, somebody that has been on the 151, the devils drop. This may be my favorite road. DANGER NO TRUCKS NO TRAILERS DO NOT ENTER IN ICE CONDITIONS. thats what the sign says
I also like the 276
the rattler is good especially the 63 part. The 80 is good too.
I think all of these are as good at the tail and alot more scenic
There are some amazing roads in that part of the country. The only problems are multi-generation, red-neck locals in beat-up pickups who pay no attention to what double yellow lines are meant for, seniors who've forgotten which pedal is for "go" and fall foliage season tourists. I spent 11 years living off of US 276 in the Brevard area, and it has two very choice sections: The first comes up out of SC into NC (on the left, below) and climbs about 2000 feet in elevation with no intersections and only a couple of driveways; the second (on the right) starts at Brevard and rises (again) about 2000 feet going up to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Early Sunday mornings can be amazing drives. And while I was back there I did manage to cross The Dragon off of my Bucket List, but even on an August Tuesday, the amount of traffic made it disappointing. The secondary highways on the way to and returning from The Dragon were a lot more fun.
Phoenix Metro has the gem called South Mountain park. The roads and dips are awesome, but you have to drive them many times over to get a feel for turns as most are invisible as this kid found out.
You can pull off the "anti-gravity" on the few dips around the tower, feeling your butt float out of the seat along with everything that's laying free in the car is epic.
