Suggestion

tbh, difficult to say as at the time of the 1st problem you could have been low on oil and a fast run does need pressure

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys New on here, bought my 996 C4S about four months ago, about two months ago I went for a spirited drive over the Brecon Beacons. I had slowed down to normal B road speeds after 50 quick miles, and a beep came from the car and 'OIL PRESSURE' and the oil can sign came up on the OBC. Having taken out the Porsche cover at £895, I rang Porsche Assist who sent out a technician who could find nothing. I spoke to OPC Cardiff, who said I had done the right thing and reported it and there was now a reported fault. Now my car is at half oil pressure on the pressure gauge whilst stood at idle, it climbs to full pressure once I set off, I have only just noticed this, my question is "Is this normal" Car had 111 point check and full OPC 45k service four months ago; car has done 48k now. I use the car every day and it is garaged. Thanks Paul

POST 2Original post

Yes, normal. At startup will run at full pressue (5). Once warm, it will drop to around 1-2 at idle. Off idle it will rise to full. More than likely you have a bad connection on the oil pressure sensor or a bad sensor....

POST 3Original post

Hi, Is that when cold or at normal running temp? The difference in oil pressure when hot or cold is huge, cold being much higher due to the thickness of the oil.

POST 4Original post

At cold, the level will be just below 5 at idle and at 5 when under load. When normal operating temperature is reached, mine idles at just over 2 and sits at 5 when under load Steve

POST 5Original post

I had a similar problem, the oil pressure dropped to 0 at the same time, it soonc(ouple of secs) returned to normal. OPC change the oil pressure swith under wararnty and all was fine after.

POST 6Original post

tbh, difficult to say as at the time of the 1st problem you could have been low on oil and a fast run does need pressure
